how hard is it to swap out a stock 8.8 with a 8.8 expo axle with disc brakes?

Not to bad, you will just havta cut off the shock tabs to move them and reweld them in.

Then acourse get everything set up with your new discs, put e brake cable back on, rehook up lines, bleed the brakes off just all the normal stuff. Only difference like stated is the shock location and acourse new u bolts with it.

the ranger ones are most commonly 28 spline, so the axle tubes are smaller iirc. you'll need a new set of perches, u bolts, and spring plates, as well as shock tabs. ruffstuffspecialties sells a complete kit, mine was around $120 shipped, with everything needed. well worth the money imo

another option is to use the shock plates that are on the expo, get some spring plates for a chevy (tahoe, yukon, 1500, etc..) they are really thin and you would mount the bolts top down on front and back side of the axle, run the u-bolts thru the shock mounts and bolt up.

I'm in the process of doing this myself. I bought the kit from RuffStuff Specialties. Great product. I am a little hampered right now with a broken neck and bad shoulder, so it is taking a little longer than planned.

It really is as simple as setting the pinion angle, welding on the new perches and shock mounts, and grinding off the Explorer mounts.

Brakes and parking brake are easy swaps to do.

I am also installing a LockRight from Richmond Gear while I have it on the jack stands.

My only problem is the rearend I ordered was from the rust belt. It is covered in rust scale. Doesn't hurt it, but it is a pain to strip the rust off. Por 15 will be my friend soon.
