Caution! 15% ethanol gasoline already...
Well here it is. I found 2 ultra cheap gasoline stations today that have been known to have good quality gasoline at all times today. I also noticed something before I started to get my gasoline. I promptly hanged up the nozzle and went in and got my money back. The clerk asked me why, and I told her that the gasoline the store had bought was the 15% ethanol gasoline and not the 10% that they usually got and my truck will not run off it. She didn't believe me until she looked at the new pump decals that the store had installed. What made her go look was the fact that I was like the 18th person in a row to request their money to be refunded. So be leary and look closely at the pump before you get any gasoline.

I do to most of the time, but here lately all of the time. My truck won't run off of the 15% ethanol gas. It costed me nearly a $1,000 bucks in repairs too. A local super market chain called Food City accidently ordered the 15% ethanol gasoline and the truck just about wouldn't run at all. It went strait into limp mode. The dealership that worked on my truck had alot of vehicles come in with the same thing happening, and we all had one thing in common: We all got gas at the same place; Food City. Alot of places that have cheaper gasoline; look at the pump's decals carefully before you get any gasoline cause it may be that 15% ethanol instead of the usual 10%. Your VW also requires you to get the premium fuel doesn't it? The reason I ask is because about 93% of the imports require premium gasoline that I've seen over the years.

Re: Caution! 15% ethanol gasoline already...
what kind of damage does the 15% cause?
the reason the VW requires the non ethanol gas is that its a 73, and thoes were never designed to run on 10%, i have run it for a while on the 10%, and it seems to run fine, but the mileage is in the shitter, and the ethanol free seems to make it alot happier

Oh ok, I didn't know what year the VW was. The 15% ethanol gasoline requires alot higher compression ratio and it tends to do some serious damage to the valves. If you catch it in time like I did there wasn't alot of damage but the labor is what cost the most. I had to have the entire fuel system flushed out completely, I also had to have a new fuel filter and fuel lines plus I ended up later on down the road having a new fuel pump installed cause the 15% ethanol, ruined the seals in my fuel pump. I caught mine in time and it spent 2 days in the shop due waiting on parts to arrive. Some others weren't so lucky. One cat ended up getting a new car because his engine grenaded itself, and it would've costed more to fix his than it was worth.

Interesting. I run both my '70 SS and '72 GS on nothing less than E85; preferably on E98.

Running fuel with to much ethanol will be more expensive down the road (future)
I would suggest going down the road and getting the regular unleaded.

Re: Caution! 15% ethanol gasoline already...
I do notice the 15% around here but luckily for me, my truck is Flex Fuel so I can run it, it is a little cheaper, but the MPG are worse, so most the time I try to get 10% or less cause it runs better...
