Default Rest In Pieces: T-Bone

May 20th, 2011 4:27 PM
Travelling Northbound in Center (of 3) lanes of Colorado Blvd (from Hampden ave going North).

Going speed limit, for 8 blocks, to get cat food.
Got to speed /40. Crested the hill and saw 3 cars STOPPED blocking all lanes of traffic.

They we're attempting to turn left across traffic in front of me. And the first car slowed WAAAY down for the dip on the far side of the intersection. Leaving the remaining vehicles stranded in the intersection.
I put both feet on that skinny brake pedal, held on to the wheel. And boom.

My front center grill gaurd hit the rear right door/ rear right wheel of an 05 Jetta. HARD

Hard enough her vehicle (which WAS pointing east) spun 180* and slammed the passenger side against a pole.
My truck spun 60* to the right and stopped blocking all lanes of traffic.

It was fun to build, it was fun to drive, it was very very short lived.

May she rest in pieces.

Saul

----------

Still runs! and Drives!

Taken by tow (both of them) to the city

Radiator smashed, grill guard smashed into frame rails and collapsed frame rails on both sides. The frame is OK from the sway bar mounts back.
Bumper touching passenger front tire.

It'll never drive again though

I went to hospital for head /back pain. Did chest XRay and CT and found a "narrow passage" in my CT that's apparently bad : ?
I feel VERY sore, back sooo stiff.

Now I'm just furious because it's my work truck, so I'm out of a job and out of a truck. Lost wages/ etc

Both people in Jetta were ok, ones head knocked the glass right out of the car though. Airbags went off in hers just fine.

Jetta's rear axle is 4" skinner than it used to be. Its totalled for sure

She got cited for taking the right of way.

that sucks. that's pretty funny that the ranger still could drive! its a beast! hope you come back just fine.

jettas are pretty damn safe, it took that hit like a champ. I don't believe they have a rear axle though . that sucks for the vw owner too, sounds like she was trapped by the moron that slowed down.

Wow! Glad you're ok!
I would follow up on that "narrow passageway" that was found on the CT. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

I've been in two accidents. Both were years ago. The first one was not my fault but the second one was.

Good luck with the insurance and finding work.

Ya know I did some serious looking at the truck. The frame is damage at the bumper mounts but the sway bar mounts/steering box mounts BACK are all perfect.

Radiator didn't hit the fan.

If I literally cut the front end OFF, and put a radiator in it. It would still run and drive.

Just a damn shame, I know it's gonna get totalled out and it won't matter anyway.
