Which ranger should I get?
Hey everyone...I currently have a pretty pimping 89 ford aerostar, but it doesn't have AC and i'm going to arizona for a summer internship. I'm looking for a good Ranger that I'll be using as a daily driver, and occasionally to haul my stuff around. What do you suggest I should look for? I have around 5k to spend, and am in the 90025 zip code. I'm looking for the following things:
Manual transmission
Air Condition
at least 22 mpg on the freeway (what my van currently gets)
I appreciate the help!

Re: Which ranger should I get?
Thats what I've been looking into, but one of my friends used to have a 4 cyl and said it didn't have anywhere near enough power. maybe he was spoiled though?

Re: Which ranger should I get?
they do have some loss in power vs the v6s but if ur looking for 22mpg ur shit outta luck
v6s get less than 20 mpg (MOST OF US do anyway)
----------
btw highest mpg ive gotten on my v6 3.0 on a regular basis is 18.5
have gotten 21 on a really lomg flat drive lol cruise control!

Re: Which ranger should I get?
yeah rangers have never been known for their great gas mileage, if you get a 4 banger you will be hurting for power in the hills with the AC going, if you get the v6 you will hurt the mileage...

Re: Which ranger should I get?
yea my grandpas 98 has the 2.5 4cyl and it is a DOG with the ac on...my 4.0 V6 you cant tell...but you lose the gas mileage with the 4.0...which i believe is the lesser of 2 evils

Re: Which ranger should I get?
wow I didn't know the V6s were that bad...i have the vulcan 3.0 in my van, and I can get 22 mpg highway. i guess that slanted windshield is good for something!
I'll look for the 4 cyls then i suppose. would it be worth the extra time/money if i could find a 2002+?
ps my dad grew up in arbuckle!! sorry, random lol. had to mention it though.

yea the 2.3 duratec isnt a bad motor...they have a decent amount of power for a 4 banger

Re: Which ranger should I get?
yea i was mostly jokin about the aerostar...I got it for free in high school 6 years ago. It has 211K miles on it and still runs fine. if it had AC i'd be taking it to arizona!
ugly as hell, but i've grown fond of it.

Re: Which ranger should I get?
If you can try and find a 02+ 4cyl. They have the 2.3 duratec and stock guys are staying consistent in the 20's city and hwy. Also with 145hp in a regcab they are decently quick.

very well! the best part is, its a manual! I think i'm gonna hold out for a 2002+ 4cyl. seems like a good compromise between power and mpg
