sears is only good for their craftsman tools.
having Sears do work on your vehicle is like asking your dentist to do open heart surgery -
you know something bad is going to happen.

let me know if you need the ball joints and or control arms...i stock them at the store and I would trust the brand as well as OEM. If anything I would more due to the fact almost everything we have has grease fittings which ford lacks.

CALL SEARS CORPORATE

I did when Sears Automotive couldn't balance a set of tires on my fathers Tahoe. Tires they sold, mounted, balanced, and aligned, then 3000 mi said we're "unalignable to due severe tire use and wear"

Uh, on a daily driven Tahoe? 285/75/R16 BFG A/T/s? Really?

After an IDIOT manager told us to leave we dealt with Sears Corporate and ONLY Corporate.

Free tire rotations/ re-balancing any time we want at any Sears, no charge.
And a wicked discount on a 5hp Air Compressor : )

GOOD JOB FOR WATCHING THEM AND BEING VIGILANT
Some shops get pissed when you do, I believe all shops should have big glass windows, and I encourage my customers to sit and watch me work on their car if they have any doubt of the quality of the work we do.

They obviously didn't know who they were messing with, did they?

If they had any ONE of the incompetent things you outlined, I would have introduced their asses to my steel toed boot.

That's the kind of help places get for minimum wages though.

Hurr durr derp, I'm a mechanic, I work at Sears, I have a shirt with my name on it Durr dee hurr.

Take your truck to someone you trust & let them give you a complete assessment & what it will cost to repair the damage Sears did. Fax, email, snail mail & hand deliver copies of your repair costs to Sears, locally & corporate and don't let up until you have a fat check in your hands.

Heres an opinion by someone that actually works with Sears auto lol. First it seems like alot of people have alot of bad to say about Sears, not saying it isn't justified but trust me there is alot more places that are just as bad as Sears and even worse. Also each store is alot to make their own policies, hire who they want, etc etc so you really shouldn't judge all of Sears stores based on one bad thing that happened. Again like I said the way people feel about it could totally be justified im not saying it isn't but there are some good ones out there.

If you want an honest good answer on if you should go to Sears from someone who works there, it really just depends on the local one by you. For instance theres some that I work with that I would let them even look at my truck, much less even work on the damn thing but there are a few that I wouldn't mind and even let do some work on it. Obviously most of the time I do, but there are a few times, or mount and balance that I go ahead and let them do so I dont havta mess with it.

But I will agree that whoever worked on your truck should be fired, and I can totally see why you were upset. Why he didnt just put it on the frame like your supposed to and use that n a block on the t bars is BEYOND me and idk why he would think that would be a good idea, but theres probably alot of places around town that would fuck shit up or do a half ass job not just Sears. Also when working on lifted trucks and bigger wheels and tires, it can be a complete bitch at times to work on them and get a good balance to take on them. Especially if you have a nice wheel and only have weights on the inside, it can take ALOT of time and weight to get them to balance out well and even then they may not feel perfect. Even on my 33's it can take a good 10-15 minutes to get a good balance on them, 2 of my tires only take 1-2 ounches to balance out, the 3rd takes like 5-6, and the last 7-8 ounches. Why? just the nature of the game and if the people dont know you or really CARE they are NOT going to spend that much time making them perfect whether it be Sears or any other place, ask me how I know!

Really the only things you can do to try and have the best outcome is specifically when going to Sears, ask for a tech 3 to do all the work. The highest that there is to offer to do all you work there. Even if that means it might take longer or come back a different day, its still totally worth it. The guys or girls for that matter that are tech 3's there are certified to do it all, are def usually not going to be kids, andhave spent alot of time and money in classes to get that certification so thats your best chance of having the best work and the employee care the most about your stuff. Also on the balancing machine, they have a setting that they normall use for all tires that will round the weights off when spin balancing them to the nearest w.e point tthey have it set at. This is normally fine for all tires, but when I have it done on my big MT's i make sure they take that setting off. It can take alot longer and be more frusturating that way especially when only having weights to use on the inside but it gets it closer.

If your going to have a shop do work on your vehicle, try your best to go through friends or get in good with guys that know them or work there, etc. Doing this and staying on top of them while they work def increases your chances of good work. Also try to find the best workers, usually some older gentleman or ask for certifications, etc. Good luck, and hope it all worked out well.

I paid for the balance, I am not seeking any damages at all. I will replace the center caps on my own, my biggest concern were the torsion bars and the incompetence of the people there. Unfortunately pain and suffering law suit are a result of a physical bodily injury, and to go after them for money is just pointless to me. They just need better mechanics and better know how

I understand your point, but to have to battle with so many people that work there, just to do the right thing is ridiculous. I am sure there are other shops that can do a shit job or another sears that is very competant. But if you ate bad shellfish for dinner that left you violently ill, would you eat it again?

2 true stories...

In the 80's my Grandfather took his car to Sears for new tires. After they were done they called him and said they couldn't let him pick the car up because the shocks were so bad it was unfit for the road. He reluctantly agreed to have new shocks installed. After thinking about it, he called my Dad (mechanic) at work and my Dad said there's no way a car that age with that mileage could have unfit/dangerous shocks. He suggested to have Sears put the old shocks in the trunk so he could check them. Sears refused - the shocks had to be disposed of properly. After an argument Sears said they'd put the old ones in the trunk. Goes to pick up the car later... no old shocks in the trunk. Apparently they can't find them anywhere. Angry letters were sent, and eventually it was sorted out.

I put 'high performance' shocks on my brand new '90 Sunbird Turbo. Sold the OEM shocks to help cover the cost. 1 Year/19,000Km later I'm sick of the hard ride, so go to Sears to get a quote for new shocks. Am told bushings probably need to be done as well... alignment, too... maybe other stuff.... they need to check it. Refuses to give me a quote even after I explained why I wanted new shocks. Says it's not fair to the customer to give a low quote for only part of the work that needs to be done. I walked out and have never been near Sears Automotive again.

If anyone in the eastern GTA area is looking for a good shop, I highly recommend Minute Muffler in Pickering. I've known them since the early 90's... family run business, do everything by the book, go the extra mile, and impeccable workmanship. They do exhaust, brakes, suspension and maintenance. HIGHLY recommended.

I actually just had tires installed for my parents at Walmart and watched in awe as the mechanic looked up lug nut torque specs in a book, then proceeded to use a torque wrench in the proper 'star pattern' to finish up the mounting of the wheels.

Don't remember that last time I saw that. Usually the lug nuts are blasted on with an air gun in a circular pattern, then I go home and loosen/torque them properly.
