Default Re: Placing a net behind the grille????

Dad has used them for over 50 years on cars trucks and heavy towing - even in British Columbia, the Yukon Territory and Alaska.
I have used them for over 30 years on cars trucks and towing.
Never had a hot engine because of them - not even with a big block engine using a stock small block radiator.

A couple of months ago, I installed some window screen behind my grille. Charcoal-colored aluminum mesh.
- Removed the skidplate to drill the holes in the leading edge.
- removed the grille.
- Slipped the 36" wide mesh down from the top and zip-tied to the skidplate
- pulled the mesh somewhat tight and re-installed the grill. The grille holds the mesh at the lower two clips and along the top where the three bolts are. It fits behind the tow hooks at the bottom.
- trimmed the mesh at tbe top.

Drove Hwy 60 through Algonquin park on Friday evening and encountered numerous moths - drawn to the headlights, foglights were even worse.. Mesh worked well - a/c condensor and trans cooler are clean!

Maybe I have led a sheltered life, but in my 54 years I have never needed a bug screen on any vehicle I have ever drove. I have lived in Mississsippi and Florida along with Ohio, I've driven in most of the other states and never had an issue with over heating due to bugs.

I didn't do this to protect against a risk of overheating due to bugs. I want to protect my radiator (a/c condenser) and trans cooler fins from rocks thrown up by other vehicles and to keep them clean from bugs and other debris. Compared to other vehicles I've owned and driven, the grill on my Ranger is quite wide open... A few minutes to spray/brush the bugs off the mesh grille/bumper, windshield and mirrors and i have a clean looking truck again...
