Default OK here's my sad story

Thursday I bought a travel trailer, I was suckered into believing my 3.0 could tow it. I entered the dealership looking at small pop-ups. Only to get side tracked by the salesman toward a pretty little lite trailer with four hard walls. He convinced me it would be perfect.

I kept asking him about the tow capacity of the 3.0. And he said he has a 4.0 Ranger that tows a loaded 19 footer real easy; so he thought there would be absolutely no problem with the 3.0. I bought into it and put $1000 down. I later find out by checking the manual, that the 3.0's maximum trailer weight is 2420 lbs. The trailer's dry weight is 2300 lbs. HUGE difference between the 4.0 which is somewhere around 5800 lbs.

I am so mortified and feel taken advantaged of. Today is supposed to be the orientation. Saturday I called the salesman and he wouldn't hear me and still kept trying to reassure me my Ranger could tow it. Mean while they are closed on Sundays. I know I would be a fool to go ahead and finish the deal. And the $1000 deposit is nonrefundable. What a big sucker I am!!!

I will of course try and get my deposit back. I will call them at 8am. My appointment is at 10am. I have been awake all night fretting over all this. I have been saving my money since '07 to some day afford a camper. I know I wasn't prepared when I entered that lot. They saw me coming. I don't think I'll ever set another foot into an RV dealership.

Please wish me luck.

Lola

This was already the smallest and lightest trailer there. Only other option at this place would be pop-up tent trailers.

Thanks

Check with your state agencies. Most, if not all, states regulate vehicle sales and service. Many also have a "cooling off" period for major purchases like a car, house or some others.

Just because a saleman with a vested interest in completing the deal tells you that your deposit is non-refundable does not necessarily make it so.

If you find out that you have a right to a refund, press them hard. They probably won't give in easily but they will follow the law if you insist.

Most states have review boards for "problem" businesses like vehicle sales/service or house sales/improvements. They MAY be required by law to investigate problems for you at no charge. You should definitely check into it.

Good luck!

I would bring in some facts about the ranger and show him He was dead wrong and Due to this , He should refund your money . As long as He will agree He said the ranger will pull it no problem , He is def in the wrong for that statement . A hard lesson to be learned , sorry to hear it . I am not sure what the full trailer weight for that vehicle is though . what is the weight of the new trailer ?

Most states have a buyer remorse law. My little sister had the same problem with a sales man once and all it took was telling him we could get lawyers involved and it was taken care of.

I hope you can get your money back. Be polite and inform them that your truck can not handle it. If it goes south in my experience it is best to just say that I will contact the better business bureau. You will usually have results if that is said. On a side note, perhaps hit them with the human effect, that is to say, look man, man to man, person to person. You know this truck cant handle this trailer, where are your morals!!!!
