i am looking into buying a 2001 ford ranger with 85,000 miles and i need to know if these are good trucks that could make it 200,000 miles without giving me any big problems.

the 4.0 v6 and 5 speed 2wd ones are by far the longst lastig

Yes they are pretty much trouble free. I know someone with a 2000 with over 200k miles and still going strong and they have had few problems.

my dads 01 edge has 113xxx still runs strong but has a 3.0 auto. he loves it in the winter compared to the truck he gave me, 2wd 98 ranger 2.5L

I have an 01 4.0 4x4, Got it with 98k on it. If you maintain it well it will last you a long time

I have 2001 4.0L bought it with 150k now has 165k no problems

I just bought a 2001 3.0 V6 with 59,000 miles and the only trouble I've had is the serp belt squealing like crazy the last few days. I don't mind paying for the repairs if needed since the truck only cost me $3700!

I have a 2001 4.0 and I bought it with 53,000 miles on it, and the timing chains were already rattling. I LOVE my truck but if I had it all to do over again, I'd buy a 03 or newer model to avoid the timing chain problems.

As far as the previous poster mentioning manuals last longest. Bah humbug! They have problems with the slave cylinders going bad. Several members have replaced MANY slaves on their truck. Many have had autos go bad too. I don't see one being better than the other.
