Exclamation Unknown part broke off of frame

My ranger has bad rust problems due to a saltwater flood, and today while driving i heard a scrapng sound. I pulled over and checked to see what it was and this is what i found part.jpg i have no idea what this is or what it does but the truck isnt running any differently. can anyone help me out?

that is the charcoal canister. it really isn't necessary but it is for Smog. It will run normal without it

Im pretty sure its for venting and scrubbing the fuel vapors from the gas tank..

thats your evap system. without it you will likely throw an evap code. i suggest re-attaching that to the frame where it was and making sure its intact and hooked up.

If it is disconnected and left open, the engine will suck dirty air directly into the intake manifold.
