Probe is ok, I personally wouldn't have picked a probe to get better MPG, but it isn't my money. Is the Probe a 5 spd at least?

ive heard probe's are a c*cksucker to work on. and I would've looked for a tempo V6...smaller than a taurus but bigger than an escort...they are quick for what it was.

Crankwalk is when the crankshaft is able to start moving within its housing which will destroy the thrust bearings and eventually the car will refuse to run or you will have an uber engine failure.

crankwalk is when the crankshaft starts moving around in its housing. causing the crankshaft to, wear into the thrust bearing. This will cause the crank to eventually move a plate that will smash into the crank angle sensor, break it, and shut the car down. pretty well only happens on the 95-97 cars

Tempo is the biggest turd ford ever made. They had countless issues.

Probe isn't a bad little car. I had the same 2.5L V6 in my contour svt. It had more HP in it, but was a fun motor. They can sound good with the right kind of exhaust too.

I liked the Probe, and I completely forgot about them until it was mentioned here. I know two people that had them and beat them to the ground with little or no maintainance. All cars/trucks can be a pain to work on in some respects. I wouldn't have gone for a 14year old car unless it has very low miles and is positively maintained, but a positive move to save money on insurance and keep miles off a newer vehicle. I am a proud Ranger owner, and hopefully, I will never have to make the decision to get rid of the truck.
