Definately check out the plasti-dip flat black option - there is also white, blue, and red as options. from what I saw on Zables truck is that it dries with a super even texture where as rattle can paint you can usually see each pass unless you are super controlled with a can. If you wanna paint it - go with a pro paint job, or at least an earl schieb or maco cheapo paint job. Do the prep yourself to save some money- maybe even prime it and then just have them shoot the paint.

I've decided that i'm going to start by working on it in sections. I'm going to work on it tomorrow starting with removing the paint from the tailgate and seeing how the final touch looks on that then go from there. Then then fenders and so on.

If you are rattle canning it, try to find automotive grade paint (more expensive but will last longer) Try to find something that has a fan tip, or large cone tip so you get a more even spray. You may want to get the little handle trigger thing that attaches to the can, will save your hands and give you more control, they are only a few bucks.

I also suggest putting down a few layers of automotive grade satin clear coat, its going to make it last longer and look alot better. the satin clear will give it a nice satin shine, which I think with out it, flat black looks nasty - itll look fuzzy and wierd with out it..

Those are just my suggestions, take em or leave em.

Here's my flat black Ranger

ONLY prep I did was wash/wipe down with acetone. NO other prep.
Paint it the $.98/Can WalMart brand CRaptastic flat black.

Sure it gets scratched easier/often. So I just spray 2 seconds and call it good.

You can see in one pic my passenger door looks darker. Its just "wetter" in the pic. It leveled out once dry just fine.
On the last pic if you look at the hood REALLLLLY close you can see the lines going left-right across. But it actually came out much better than I thought it would. WHen I got it, it was 3 colors lol
Since pics were taken I've painted the windshield trim, the badge on the front "OY", and the doorhandles/tailgate handles all black as well. Looks MUCH better with EVERYTHING black but headlights/taillights.

It's good from far, and far from good. But for a $2500 budget truck that's supposed to turn on 2-wheels. Good enough for me.

EDIT:

The $2 hand/bottle grabber for spray paint cans ROCKS

Whenever I've finished floors or doors in the past I've always gone with a clear gloss and just rubbed the finish out to a nice even satin luster. You can get rid of surface glare and irregular surface sheen this way as well since that'll be there even in satin finishes. Satin finish is just less transparent.

The "gray" feel is from my cell phone camera lol

Keep in mind mine is an example of a $19 paint job. The cheapest thing I could do to stop rust and get it one color

I started today on my first section which was my tailgate to test it out to see how it would look. I really love the look on the my truck so far from doing just this small section. I did prep work on the tailgate then rattle canned rustolyeum flat black from autozone. It looks really clean except from a side view I can see passing streaks so I have to work on fixing that. I'll be doing the hood next possibly tomorrow.

To fix the streaks I've had good results with wiping the painted section down with a damp terry towel
Don't press too hard...just enough to remove the excess powder

Flat paint leaves a powdery film that gives it the streaked look
