Default Step 1: Competed!(3 Step Process)

I have been lurking your boards for quite a while now. Reading up on everything I can to find lots of info on a truck I hope to own in 3-4 months or so. Doesn't seem to long when your just 16.

Step 1: Getting Approval for a Truck. Complete!
Step 2: Have funds to support Gas and repairs. Half-way to my goal.
Step 3: Own a Truck. Finding deals all the time.

Step 1 - My mom and Dad gave me approval for a truck. They haven't said start looking or anything, because Sept is still a good 4 months away. Sept is when I want the truck. August would be prime.

Question: Are there any certain years I should be looking out for? As in problematic? I am looking for a 2000 or higher, but I'll go as low as a 98. Anything I should pay special attention too?
Also I don't see many people with bars on the back of their beds. Can you get them for a Ford Ranger? I LOVE the looks of it.

Auto transmissions. If they're not properly maintained by previous owners, you're asking for trouble. 2001-2002 4.0 SOHC timing chain woes. 1996-2006? 3.0 Camshaft Synchronizer and Position Sensor woes.

That should get you started. Maintenance records are a great thing to look for, because a well maintained vehicle always lasts longer.

What shaun said is about all you need to know. This truck otherwise is pretty flawless. If it aint broke dont fix it.

Well it just so happens I can't drive stick, so Auto it is. I am hoping that with getting a newer year I won't have as many issues. But thanks for the heads up on those years. I read that vehicles average 20,000clicks a year, am I too assume thats correct?

I can ride a dirt bike..thats close, right? I don't have much interest in learning how. I know its better but Idk, no one in my family drives Stick.

Does anyone have the bars on the back of the beds? Are they available for Ford Rangers?

Be the trend setter in your family!
Buy a manual shift Ranger.
If no one drives stick in your family,
You won't have to worry about anyone borrowing your ride! LOL
