If you do receive money from the insurance company for the ranger, why not pay it on the loan for the ranger? If you want to try and keep a good relationship with the loan people, put it towards the loan.

It is your decision but you are receiving money for the damage on the ranger, use it on the ranger even if it is not for repair but loan repayment.

Yea that's not a bad idea. I don't know what the loan situation is or how it is handled after you turn the vehicle back in. If you are up on all your payments, are you obsolved any further payments? Or is there something you will still owe? If you will still owe, I would handle that before you go spending elsewhere.

Probably not his decision. If insurance company is aware of loan they are apt to write check payable to the body shop and the owner. Owner can't cash check without body shop endorsement. Lenders learned that flakes would take the money and run and not fix the damage shortly after the automobile was invented.

I understand that, but I was referring to the OP had said he was going to use the money he received from the insurance company on his Explorer.

He wrote a $1500 check to me. I cashed it promptly and out it away just in case.

Also, a new welder is in my garage for somehow...

You may have to fix it yourself. Some insurance companies won't fix it if the repairs cost more than the vehicle is worth. But judging from the photos and some of what you said, it shouldn't cost too much to repair it sheet metal wise, but repainting it will indeed cost alot. Any decent body shop's paint job from start to finish usually starts at $7,000 bucks for repainting the entire truck.

Yeah paint can be extremely expensive. I watched "livin the low life" with Vida Garrette once and saw some cat spend $30,000 on a paint job. I haven't watch it since. Paying that much for a paint job is indeed retarded.

Still staring at my mirror, I see him fly up on my ass end as fast as he can as I make a right corner and I hold on because I see him coming and BAM!!!! FVCK! I just got rear ended. I slam my door open and he is backing up. I get his license plate just in case (glance over the car, Green dodge neon) as he drives away smoke boiling off of his engine. I jump back in my truck, start it back up, and chase him down as his car dies completely on the opposite side of the road.

Get the cops on the phone and he gets out (35-40 yr old6', male, white, scruffy beard about 6') and he is coming towards me yelling profanities and I'm telling the cop everything as it happens. Cops show up get the info and ask me "did you smell alcohol on his breath?" I nodded and said I did when he was coming towards me.

They do a field sobriety as I watch from my truck, which he failed horribly, next thing I know they are pulling something out of his pocket and putting him in handcuffs and in the back of the squad car. So now cop comes back to me and tells me they are booking him for DUI, possesion of narcotics, and hit and run. I'm thinking, thats good news. Then he says he had no insurance, no license, and no registration on the car... Well that F's me over.

But if you remember from a while back, the truck is going back in the bankruptcy. Pictures will be up tomorrow.

Question time.

1. what does a stepside bedside replacement run? and paint for that?
2. what does a bumper run?
3. For insurance people, does the check come to me and I choose a fix it shop or do they do it all? Do i just gather quotes?

i'm lost...

If you don't have uninsured motorist coverage you'll have to pay for the repair, then bring a lawsuit against the other driver.....which will probably be useless.
Collision coverage is only for damage or injuries you might have caused if you were at fault.
Drunks and stoners are bad enough, but uninsured scumbags who drink and drive are awful....especially the ones sneaking in here from mexico and latin america. I think most banks require uninsured motorist coverage.

State farm will NOT send the owner of the car insured a check, because they know people might just spend it on other stuff and not get the vehicle fixed.
also, State farm insurance (in MN) also has a "Uninsured/underinsured" requirement that means if someone is at fault for hitting you and is uninsured or Underinsured, or Is a "hit and run" your not liable to pay the costs to fix your vehicle. UNLESS you DON'T have collision coverage.
Now, what your policy has and who your Insurance company is, may have a different set of rules

I have State Farm and if you have a vehicle repaired at one of their participating body shops the repairs are warrantied for as long as you own it. However State Farm has changed it's policy against using aftermarket parts in favor of OEM....they now use aftermarket when possible and that stinks. Aftermarket body panels don't cut it in my opinion.

Confused. Who is the "he" and if you're in a financial hardship situation, why would you spend the money on a welder?
