Default Air Bag light is on

This is kind of a followup to a post I made on Friday, but with a new symptom.

I had someone shampoo the carpet on Friday and although it looks great, when I started it up there was a consistent buzzing coming from a yellow, rectangular electrical box, under the driver side dash behind and to the side of the OBDII port.

It kind of sounded like a short, but the switch(?) was vibrating like it was humming a tune. It does not look like a flasher relay, so I am confused.

If I turned on a turn signal or the hazards, it would stop. So I left it parked in the sun for a few hours with the windows open and when I got back to go home the sound was gone.

Now, however, I had some shifting problems on Saturday that seemed to go away after poking around under the truck looking for problems. So I replaced the transmission fluid with Lucas gear oil and shifting seems okay, if not a little more notchy than before when I downshift.

BUT, the big problem is that the Air Bag light is staying on.

Anyone know if these things are related? Also, what is this switch? I am going to replace it.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys.

Any ideas what this switch was that was buzzing, but went off with the turn signal on?

Also, I read that there is a clutch related sensor/switch under the driver dash too. I am considering replacing that as well to see if my notchy downshifting goes away.

the airbag light should flash. count how many times it flashes and that will be your code. no need to go replacing different things without knowing what is the actual problem.

It flashed yesterday, today it is was staying on solid (or maybe I missed the flash this morning). Or are you saying it flashes, then goes solid?

Ok, got'cha. The code is 2-7. I did some checking and it looks to be a problem with the side airbag idicator light. Some other guys had the same problem with a burnt out bulb and replaced it with a 12 v led from radioshack. But my bulb lights up. The plot thickens.

lets see, theyve already mentioned the connectors under seats and the fuses.

Check the wires leading to the airbag sensor thing under seats that it isnt worn to the metal or anything.

Also, try the unhook battery trick

also, does disabling the passenger airbag do anything?

a code 27 deals with the PAD switch, just as he mentioned. so nothing under the seat will do anything for this error code.

hopefully bob (rwenzing) will chime in here. if the light works, maybe the resistance is out of range or something.

Tim, actually disabling the side airbag (with a battery disconnect reset) killed the code. For now I guess, don't ride with me.

Thoughts?

I missread my airbag code the first time, so I was tossing out all ideas in the off chance he may have done the same, no harm in checking them out anyways, nheh?

As for why its off now, no idea.
probably noy what you wanted to hear

have you turned it back on after all this, will the code reappear?
