oil leak discovered, shifting problems too

So, I started having trouble today with shifting into a second (any) gear after starting the truck up. I could get into first or reverse and start to take off, but the next gear I searched for was like a brick wall. It will not go. But if I turn the engine of, try again, I can find any gear I want.

Luckily after poking around under/over with the engine running and sitting with the nose uphill (don't know if that mattered) I was able to shift and get her the 10 miles home.


So I looked under the truck, and what my friend thought was a transmission leak was actually oil. My buddy is color blind, for real, fun guy though.

The leak is running down the back of the engine and runs right in front of where the transmission hooks up to the engine. I am not sure what that box is, but I think it is coming from above it? It is not too much oil, but not a trickle either. Also, it only started today. I have been driving the truck about 60 miles a day for a week but today is the first time I drove it in 80+ weather from 9am till about 4.

Anyway, I am going to flush the transmission anyway and refill via a shifter removal.

Ugh... I think I am going to get a beer and then work on getting one of my motorcycles ready for sale. Anyone want a Honda 1979 CB750 10th Anniversary LTD? Great condition.
