From a fellow 16-year-old:

Body lifts are very exspensive from what I have seen. I have thought a few times about them, but the thing is, factory rims and tires look bad with a lift. So, you would have to buy new tires, and frankly, that costs too much for me.

I would love to sugest a few things you could do on a buget. Just need an idea of what you are going for.

As for how much work- This is my hobby, and I love it. So, its not really work.

Just opinion.

Making a prerunner will cost quite a bit just FYI.

work.

body lifts are like 100-200 bucks.. much cheaper than 2-3 k for a suspension lift.. and stock rims wont look bad
but yes you will need some bigger meats..

As Justin said, building a true prerunner is extremely expensive but if you're just looking for the look without the performance you can get by for a whole lot cheaper. Lifting it and adding bigger tires will only add to the slowness, so if you're already disappointed by how slow it is you will need to address that also (engine swap, etc.).

Personally, I would save my money and buy a newer truck instead of investing everything in a 15 year old truck. Granted, you can still do some cheaper things such as a body lift, buying some used tires, etc. and still improve the look fairly cheap. Used parts are your friend.

Not everyone needs 4wd when they lift. I do just fine with my 2wd, but need the extra clearance for bigger tires and for going up/down steep dunes. I also am going fast enough through the desert most of the time where 4wd is just not needed.

Being from Michigan where the snow flies, a 4x4 is must imo for the snowy hills and everything. Maybe if I was in a warmer climate, I would think differently about it. I had a 2wd for 2 years and had to plan my routes around steeper hills during the winter.

4wd is a luxury not a necessity, a good driver can get anywhere a 4wd can go with just 2wd and a good locker

I have heard this a lot, but I still don't think it is entirely true, especially for snow. I know trying to get out of my driveway with only 2wd was extreme pain in the rear, and a locker would probably made it only worse because I would have been just going sideways up the driveway.
