Ha a hitch is an option if I had one of those racks that go into it.

Hi new to the forum.
i built a canoe rack with a whopping $17worth of materials. 5 2x4 s and 4 brackets. I dont have pictures right now as i cant find the cable to download from camera. Basically just cut 2 of the boards in half for the upright posts. Notche the bottom of them so that the last 9 inches or so were 1.25 x 3 and stuck those in the stake holder holes. then laid a 2x4 on the top of each side rail and bolted to the uprights. this sturdes the bottom of the rack. cut another 2x4 in half and using joist stringer brackets, secured the front two posts across the width of the box. and the other half the back half of the box. When you put the canoe across those cross pieces, it steadys the front 2 posts with the back 2 posts just like the two boards that are on the bottom of the side rails. its pretty ridgid. If you are really interested in pics, i will try and work on that this weekend. Its easy to dissamble too.

i have a 98 ranger long box - 4 banger

Ben I know a lot about this area; however I'm a thule type of guy, but you can do it this way,, unless your canoe is longer than turn it upside down on the roof. Be sure you have cushion between the roof and canoe and than tie the bow and opposite end down like in the pic.

There is just a piece of foam between the roof of the cab and the kayak
that is a 10' kayak

bryce im probably gonna leave the boat at home for this one, the boat is too long to center on my roof, it might buckle. we are just gonna go to a cool spot and kick it on the beach.
