i dont think you can do it that way. i had a sunpro tach and the green wire to read the RPM went to the PCM wiring harness. theres a wire in their that you splice it into

in the kit they have a paper that says where to hook the green one up for each engine. heres where it is off the internet..
http://www.sunpro.com/application_gu...e&model=Ranger

----------

it would be the same as mine, ill put a pic up of what wiring harness its in

the arrow is pointing to the PCM(powertrain control module) its the computer with a big plug that has wires which is its wiring harness. your wire is in that harness.

Perhaps just a cluster swap is in order. Very easy, plug and play. But some folks like the "look" of the tach

well, I put one in my dads 4 banger and I do think the tach is off. For me the sound of the engine dont match what the tach is saying. But there are workarounds, something about grounding one of the wires or moving 2 pins around will fix it. Plus there is a tach adjust on the tach itself, not sure what or how much to adjust

Mileage is easy, you can move the numbers with your thumbs, but you do have to reset the speedo needle

The 99 tach signal is on the Tan/Yellow wire running from pin 48 of the PCM, through the firewall near the brake booster and then to the factory instrument cluster plug. It does not go to the coilpack.

Sorry for digging up an ancient thread, but where can I locate my wire - specifically behind the "kick panel"?

TACHOMETER WIRE GRAY/ORANGE ECM in Passenger Kick Panel or Behind Instrument Cluster

The tach signal wire in a 94 2.3L is tan/yellow. Find the T/Y at pin 4 of the PCM OR at the back of the instrument cluster OR at the Tachometer Service Connector (driver side inner fender apron).

Any idea the measurement of max amps that is pushed through the signal wire? (looking into aftermarket)

Thanks for your response!

Very little current. It is the signal wire used by the factory tach and generally works well with aftermarket tachs too.

I apologize for commenting on an old post... but I too am looking to install a dash mount tach. Wondering what kind of adaptor is needed to attach the wire to the PCM? Is there a pin the wire is spliced into, then the pin is inserted into PCM or is the wire more or less just inserted into the PCM?
