Manual transmision shift light
Has any one put a shift light into their truck so it lights up when you hit a certain rpm? im thinking of putting one green one in that will come on at 2500 rpm and a orange one at 3500rpm and a red one at 4500. And does anyone know how to wire it so the lights would come on at different rpm's?

and you'd be sick of the lights in the first 20 mins of driving.

Re: Manual transmision shift light
it depends on how they're mounted. a car i helped build had them similar to what he was referring to, but sunk into the dash. you could see them when they lit up, but it wasn't blinding or anything. i don't know how it was operated, i just did some wiring on the thing.
but i think 2500 and 3500 are too low for lights, they'll get annoying. hell, i get my truck up to 2500 just cruising, i'd hate to have that light in my face all the time.

what i was thinking of doing was single leds set into the dash between the radio bezel and gauges.
i cuise at 2200 rpm at 60 in 5th gear so the lights wouldnt be on constantly, just when i decide to accelerate harder or down shift to pass ppl

Re: Manual transmision shift light
Shift lights are only good for racing, as you can't look down your tach really. A shift light in a Ranger seems pointless to me as you will not use if in traffic and porbably not use it at all any where else. Depending on terrain, road and traffic conditions, its best to just shift when you need to, rather than just shifting when the light says so. Also, the light won't go on if you downshift unless you hit the set RPM's by luck on the downshift, and even then, what purpose does it serve?
