Default 90 Ford Ranger 2.9L loses oil pressure, etc...

I am working on a 1990 Ford Ranger 2.9L 4WD.
After driving 20 minutes or so it starts running rough and looses oil pressure, it does have a constant ticking/tapping (Valve/Lifter/Pushrod), I am pretty sure it is pinging when the issue occurs, the truck is very loud (exhaust, or lack there of....lol) but I can hear the the pinging over the exhaust. Not sure if it is overheating, temp guage doesn't work along with the fuel level guage.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc....
Thank You
Joe

P.S...I did see someone else had this issue on yahoo or answer.com but no solution was posted.

The motor just might be getting worn out and need a rebuild.

When a motor heats up the oil thins and oil pressure drops. If a motor has really worn bearings - the oil pressure will drop really low. Hence all the valve train tapping you're hearing.

That's my best guess.

Basically if it were me, I'd probably start looking for a good running junkyard motor.

Is the radiator boiling over?

If you have low oil pressure on the motor, and it's making a lot of noise - without knowing more about it, all I can imagine/suggest is the motor may be very near the end of it's life.
