Default Skid Plate Question

My 2011 Sport 2WD SuperBab 4 door has the skid plate on the fuel tank like they all do. When I saw "skid plate" listed as a standard feature, I thought it meant a front skid plate.

I am looking at a 2011 Ranger brochure right now and on page six it states "A front skid plate is standard on on SuperCab 4X2s".

Where is my front skid plate? Did Ford make a typo in the brochure?
That seems a little misleading to me. No big deal, but I expected a front skid plate on my new Ranger Sport 4X2.

I have out 80 miles on her and I love it!!!

My 2010 Nissan Xterra got totaled in an accident on Monday and I am so glad I replaced it with the Ranger.

Call the dealership and question them

Before skid plates only came on FX4 trucks and Off road package XLT's

It's no big deal really. The standard answer would be, just like Subaru told us once, "specifications are subject to change".
That is the automobile business "catch all phrase" to this kind of question. LOL!

I really can't see ford adding a factory front skid plate to a 4x2. doesn't make any sense.
Like STL said, Ford only put the front skid plate on FX4's and Off road rangers (since 2000)

I looked at the 2011 brochure and it says exactly what he said. I agree odd to put one on a 2wd

What you posted is 2010 and I am gonna guess from Canada.
Canada was still making the FX4 when US was not.

I also just got a 2011 Sport 4x2 4 door and noticed the same thing-no front skid plate. I called the dealership about it. They said that they would check into and a couple of weeks later they said that it is supposed to have it and put 1 on.

Can you provide some more information about this? Also, sounds like a nice dealership to help you out like this.

I had to stay on top of the dealership to get it done. They tried to say that that the 4x2 wasn't supposed to have 1. I had the 2011 brochure, webpage printed off from Ford's website that showed the standard equipment, and the parts list on my particular VIN off the Ford owner's website which shows the skid plate. I aslo called Ford consumer line to verify everything and they agreed that the skid plate should be on there. I went back to the salesman. He called some people and they had me go to the service dept. They verified that no skid plate was installed and said that they had to check on some things. A couple of weeks later and a few calls from me checking the status they said they had 1 on order. It was installed a few days later. I figured if I paid for it, and it's listed on the sticker, then it should be on there. Good luck!

When you got your skid plate did the dealer have any problems? like did they say there has to be a cross member to support it? I have the same truck and went to pick up my skid plate and they could not put it on due to the mysterious missing cross member. Please reply thanks.
