Default Possibly Getting a Ranger

Hey guys!

So Im going off to college next year out in Arizona and I need to buy a truck for under $7000. I really want to get a ranger, hopefully lifted some so I can take advantage of all the off-roading out in AZ. What do you guys suggest for the Ranger possibility? I figured I'd ask some enthusiasts to get a real (and hopefully unbiased) opinion.

For $7,000, you probably get a 4L SOHC, 4x4 with perhaps a 4.10 diff, theres a lot of ranger for sale (not a bad thing, they are good trucks) so there is a lot of options and possiblities, plus prices could get competitive so that means a lot low miles ranger that are to your liking are easy to find for the most part. Most of us would recommend the 4L SOHC since it has the power to run larger tires, but its a little thirsty. the 3L is underpowered for a v6 and a lot came with only 2wd in the latter years and 2.3 4 cyl has great fuel economy and is still capable of doing some mild off roading (a lot of people here have 2.3L with larger tires and they are still quite capable).

For that price, you should be able to find a decent truck. If you want a lifted one with 4wd, go for the 4.0.

If I sold my 2001 2 door now I would be happy to get $3500 for it so you could get like a extended cab 2005 4x4 for $7000.
