Default I must admit I like the SMALLER TRUCK

I have been so pleased owning a smaller truck lately. Here in the midwest gas is up to 3.69 a gal. I heard later this year it could go to 5.00 a gal. Today a buddy of mine and I were talking. He has the largest work truck chevy makes a huge vortex engine and all the towing capacity. I was telling him how much I like his truck. I then talked about the price of gas and he got kind of bummed out. He said it brought him down just to think of it. I thought to myself now I know why I got the Ranger just makes sense to do that. Not to mention they are sweet little trucks.

My 3.0 aint bad, but I changed a few things to get the mpg's I get. The biggest problem is that mine is too heavy for a V6 to push around. It would do better with a 5.0. A friend of mine got the same mpg's with a carbed 5.0 (as long as he didn't drive the piss out of it) as his old injected 4.0 and that told the story for me right there.

That's a huge part of it. The Ranger isn't very areodymanic. Plus you have about a 25% power and 75% weight ratio. That doesn't help at all. Plus your rear gears, and transmission play a huge roll in your mpg's too. Here's what's funny. People wasting their money on CAI kits, exotic oils and mods that are a waste of time and money trying get better mpg's.

I just have the two wheel drive four cylinder. I do not tow anything but it is still fast enough to get a ticket.

Ya know it is kind of sad really I have a 98 ranger with the 3.0 auto tranny i get any where from 18 to 23 mpg depends on how i drive it.

I have a friend who has a 2004 f350 with the 6.0 power stroke he is getting right around 20mpg and he gets right around 19 while towing a jeep on a car hauler.

I've been getting 23-24 miles to a gallon since I did my oil change and switched to synthetic. But then again I also have exhaust, flashpaq tune, intake and it's only a two door. But before then on a good day I was at best getting 17 miles to a gallon even driving with a light foot. I honestly hate the fact that my old fullsize F150 got 20MPG even when I was 300 miles over my oil change limit and it had a bad lifter in the old motor. I still wonder how exactly Ford ever got away with the idea that a 3.0 with only 150HP and an average of (as tested) 18 city and 19 highway was ever a good idea. I kind of wonder if anyone's ever going to be brave enough to try out a new Ecoboost 3.7 or even the N/A version in a Ranger. That'd probably be the most worth while swap ever IMHO.

Yeah, that's pretty sad. When the fuel pump went out on my truck someone gave me a ride home in a fullsize dodge and that thing got around 22 mpg's and made at least 3 of my Ranger. I was shocked that night.

I have a friend with a fullsize chevy with ten inches of lift with 35's. he gets 14mpg and I was like what! I have a little ranger and get 15.5. How do you get 26 diabloblanca? That just doesnt seem plausable.
