Default First Oil Analysis Results!

So I just received my first oil analysis results from Blackstone labs, and things are looking good!

The long and short of it these results are that Mobil-1 synthetic 5w-30 has a lot of life left at 5,000 miles in my engine.

I hope this "oil Report" for 5,000 mile old oil didn't cost a lot of $

Blackstone ftw. As you found out, you can go a long time with good oil.

Total cost out was $36.90… $25 for the base report, $10 extra for the TBN and $1.90 in postage to send the sample in.

It's worth it to me to know how long the synthetic oils hold up in my engine. It's also a good indicator on the health of bearings and engine internals; excess blow-by or a leaking head gasket for example–Dexcool doesn't emulsify in oil like the old green stuff did. With the timing chain issues in the SOHC engines, this is probably a good way to detect a more serious problem than a rattle.

The turnaround was quicker than I expected too. I dropped the sample at the post office late Monday and the report was e-mailed to me today.

you can get 10-15k on some good oil. I use Amsoil and change it at 5k because I am anal. I only hit that about once a year though. I don't drive too much.

I'm planning on having another analysis done on the next change at 7,500. Some of the Mobil-1 synthetics are claiming a 15,000 mile change interval. Changing this at 5,000 was more to set a benchmark to move up from. If I can pull 10,000 miles on one change, I'd be impressed.

I have these done about every other oil change. I run Mobil 1 and I don't hesitate to run it 9K miles. However the iron has always been elevated, a trait common to Mobil 1. Looks like I'm going to switch to Motorcraft or Castrol Edge.

Good to hear that Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic holds up after 5000...that's what I use.
