Question Question about fuel fill tube

I just noticed the other day when filling up that my fuel fill tube where the nozzle goes into, doesn't have that little metal trap door that is spring loaded. Every car I've ever seen has one, do the rangers just not have them, or has mine fallen down into the gas tank somewhere?

I wonder when ford stopped putting those little metal "flaps" on the fuel nozzle?

I've owned/leased a 97', 02', 04', 06', and an 08'. They all have had that little fuel thingy. I always thought that it was there to protect the tank. I know that there is a cap, but I've never seen a vehicle w/o it. Maybe yours did fall-into the tank. I wouldn't worry about it.
