Default Do you run 89 with a stock tune?

I have been running 89 in my truck for about 2 months now, and noticed a much better performance overall.

not to mention better gas mileage.

on 87 i get high 14's.. on 89 i get mid 16's sometimes 17, and according to my butt dyno, seems to have more power...

not much, but it seems that way... the truck also seems to run better... anyone else try this?

for $1 for a fill up over 87, seems worth it to me...

On my truck I obviously ran regular and got 14.5. Then I put premium in once and I got 17 out of her with that tank. Ever sense then I have been getting 16-17. I guess the premium cleaned out some nasty stuff or something. Sorry about not answering any questions on the topic, but I just wanted to put it out there.

You realize that running a higher octane without your motor being tuned for it is a complete waste of money right?

I only put it in for one tank and I haven't done it sense then. I get better gas millage now, only about 2 mpg's though. And my truck has been sitting in my back yard for about 4 years without being ran, I got it running near the beginning of the summer so I'm sure there was just some crap sittin in the motor that built up and I think the premium got it out. I could be wrong but I just feel like that's what happened.

here's my $0.02 you pay for what you get most of the time but this is the one time you dont and way gas here is so outrageously priced ill stick to low grade and get a stock tune for it!

truck is tuned for 87....it'll run best on 87. simple enough.

it's not like the old days of carburated engines.....my chevy runs like a raped ape on 110LL or 115LL. The high compression ratio LOVES high octane....it requires it.

Im not sure if those replies were on my quote but I only run 87. I put premium in once and that was it. lol actually today I was in a rush at the gas station and just grabbed a pump and once I started pumping i realized i grabbed the 89, woops. It was only $2.21 though but that was a pure accident haha.

Nah...my comment wasn't really directed towards you, boozer, and your truck is probably carburated....might be the reason why it liked the higher octane.

Your perceived power gains are 100% all in your head (or your but) and do not exist. Its not possible, in fact you're probably producing LESS power. I can probably find a more likely cause for the mileage increase as well. Lots of things effect that and using the incorrect fuel is certainly not one of them.

I didn't notice anything different at all about performance, I just couldn't think of any other reason why the mileage changed. but anything could have happened.
