Right, and 100% agreed. Henry Ford pioneered the assembly line in an effort to make cars affordable to every day Americans. I don't see much affordability nowadays. Then again, technology costs money. But then again, technology is easily overused in situations where it isn't really needed.

Hey Shaun, Nope not quite right on the price tag in my area. Our vehicle tax is through the roof here. It depends where you buy the truck. I live about 40 miles north of the Tennesee state line. If I were to cross the state line the price tag would drop dramatically, by at least $8,000 grand easy depending on which model. Plus another factor you must consider is how big and well known is the dealer. A larger dealer usually has lower prices due to an excess amount of models. That plays a roll too.

We will never see the day that Ford pulls their heads out of their asses, and I do agree some but not all. I worked in a dealership for 6 months and only saw about 4 rangers. But I do wish they'd quit charging so much for some of their parts cause some of them aint that good at all (clutches, throttle bodies, clutch cables etc. are prime examples). I can't even get a decent clutch for mine it's a ford only part in my case (I tried finding one on the web and couldn't). But other than that if they're properly maintained these rangers IMO, out perform the F150 in terms of needing service based on my own exp.

Here's another thing that bugs me, there's not much aftermarket support for the Ranger either. Of course it depends on which model or what you plan on doing to your ranger yes, but in general there's not that much support at all. About the only place that carries alot of stuff for the Ranger is LMC Truck. Others have a few lowering and lift kits. It seems like everyone but us, and used car dealers ignore the ranger. (used car dealers love them because they don't sit for very long). Ford is letting an oppurtunity to dominate the light truck market slip through their fingers IMO.

Pat, Taco's are midsize trucks, they also started life as compact trucks, maybe the Ranger needs to take the same turn.

The other thing, I think people today are really going to demand a crew cab, give that to them.

As for aftermarket support - all comes down to ease and popularity. Ford didn't help itself with traction beams.

As for cost that is not solely Ford's fault. It is partly any automotive manufacturer that uses the UAW. The added cost to a lot of new vehicles is to pay for the pensions of retired auto workers. Plus they have to compete with cars like Kia's and Hyundai's that are built by small Asian people for little to no overhead cost other then their pay. While UAW cotinues to demand more money, more benefits, and more power. I don't totally blame the Big 3 or UAW, they all had a hand in it.

I can't stand the UAW at all. The import industry played a big roll in the situation with the big 3's prices too. I bet if you got rid of the UAW the price tag would drop dramatically, most likely by half. here's the ironic thing. Those import companies are made in the USA more than the big 3 are. Hyundai is made mostly in Alabama and VW has a huge factory in Chattanooga, TN. You got Toyota across the street from the corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY (they use the same brakes that GM uses). Mainly the imports are cheaper due to the cost of RAW MATERIALS. They get them alot cheaper than the big 3.

Yup, I knew all of that, completely STUPID of the UAW if you ask me. The other thing is the guys that work for the none UAW places, make just as good of money and benefits too. The difference they have 401Ks and they make vehicles far cheaper for us!

I heard about this. I have owned 3 Rangers in my driving career. My first was a 1987...next 1994...and now a 2005. All performed well and the only reason I bought new ones was because they were so reliable. I once had to take my '94 in to be serviced and the service guy at the dealership told me, "we don't see too many Rangers come in here at all."

I fault Ford for this...Ford did nothing but continuing to update the Ranger with a stale design. I saw some pics of the Australia Ranger and that's the version they should have brought here.

I'm new here, but I had to come here and post once I found out the news about the Ranger. I am truly upset.

These Rangers, and F250 Diesels usually doesn't see alot of problems at all. I worked at a Ford dealership for 6 months to obtain my Ford certificate and I only saw 2 F250 diesels, and 4 Rangers. The rest were usually F150s and the gasoline version of the F250. That's how well the Ranger and F250 diesels are built. Ford/UAW's greed is what's killing the automotive world as we speak.

The tree huggers don't help at all. The overseas diesel engine emissions are way lower than ours, but on the gasoline side it's the opposite. Do you know you can't even by a carb over there to build a hotrod now? That sucks. The only way you can buy a carb over seas is to have an actual antique vehicle that is registered. I learned about this from an old episode of american chopper and did some research. It gives new meaning to the term fucked up.
I love fuel injection, but a prius puts out more pollution in its cycle of being created from ore to final machine, then most of the muscle cars with carbs ever did.

You got screwed dude, I payed just over $18K for mine, all included with the tonneau, mudflaps and visors, plus a full tank of gas

id like to see a crew cab ranger that keeps generally the same style of body, gets the same IF NOT BETTER gas mileage, and has a luxury option. Not that i would want it, just would be cool to see. And i mean not like...you know luxury just leather heated seats, maybe a sunroof....basically a lariat ranger crew cab or something like that
