There is a thread around showing the proper way to back flush the core. You need to hook a garden hose directly to the outlet side of the core and blast it a few times. If I find the link later I will post it. Could your hoses be clogged or narrowed. I don't have a heater control valve in line with my heater hoses maybe because no A/C. But if you have one maybe it is defective. Could you bypass it and see? Do your controls work. I have 3. Fan motor. 3 speeds, temp control when I turn it all the way right to the red side. I can hear the blend door close(very important). Truck must be running. The last control I have is air direction. Are yours all working. I would try everything else first. If you have to replace the core you have to pull steering wheel and dash. Sometimes a broken water pump fin could cause bad circulation doesn't seem like your problem though

I replaced the heater control valve last night. It's was a $18 part so I said what the hell. I confirm that the valve is working properly. It only closes when I have the AC on. All my air directions and temp controls are working properly.

The issue is that it's not getting hot. The air coming out of the vents are only a mild warm.

Check that when the truck is running and you turn the temp all th way to (hot) red, that you can hear the blend door close. If you can hear the door close then it is probably the core and we can find the thread showing how to backflush it

Default heater core flushing

here is a pix of how I flushed my heater core. Notice the heater hoses are out of the way with a bolt in them (bolt optional) I turned the hose on and of 3 or for times. i then reversed the the hoses and blasted it 3 more times. some peeps suggest a rad cleaner in the core first if you think yours is really bad I used a 5/8 female hose connector on an extra piee of heater hose.

Bighomedog11 you posted this site on another thread:

http://www.heatertreater.net/

A little pricey, but compared to having a mechanic do the work (rumored to be around $1000) it might be your answer. The site includes two videos on how the installation is done.

I have seen that kit around but never used. Any body ever use it? I just looked it up and it is $119. You need a dremmel tool. I think ford budgets 6 hours to pull the dash and install a heater core. The core is about $60. I am not sure what the OEM blend door costs there are some threads showing gow to do a quick fix on the blenddoor. I am not sure how long or how well they work

When I got home this afternoon, I flushed my heater core... this time doing both hoses

I used the method you have in your picture. After flushing, I took the radiator cap off, ran the motor till it got nice and hot, and burped the system by squeezing the upper radiator hose and the heater core hoses. Basically all the hoses I could trying to get any air out. Quite a bit of air came out. Every time I squeezed and air came out, I was able to add a little bit more water.

I had to take a couple hour break so that I could go to my kids school function, but when I came back I jumped back in the truck, started it, and took it for a ride to the local gas station. To my amazement when I turned on the heater, out came HOT air. WHOOT!!! My guess is that it was air in the system and burping it and flushing the heater core got it out.

The true test will be tomorrow morning on my ride to work at 5AM after the truck has sat for over 8 hours.

Thanks again Ed for you help !!!!!

Great Job I am glad it seems to have worked out for you and that you don't have to screw with replacing the core or the blend door. I am sure it will work fine tomorrow. you might have to fill and burp again but i bet it will be fine...... good job keep us posted if you hit a snag. that is good that your temp is where it should be the trucks puter uses all that to run the truck efficiently and the temp needs to be correct for optimum performance

I am wondering could this be my problem also?
I dont think so because my heater cores get hot.. I just think it is a blend door problem..
