i think hands down the toughest small trucks ever built were the 80-95 toyota pickups. i had a 92 toyota pickup before my ranger and it was pretty indestructable. i love my ranger but the old toyota was alot tougher. i do also think toyota is starting to lose their quality though

You don't see much of those indestructible older yotas here. I guess our climate was just too much for them.

you see them EVERYWHERE in socal. the problem is (was? lol) they just rusted away.
i had an 86 4x4. i COULD NOT get the damn thing stuck. i have been past the hubs in mud, and with the front hubs locked (manual front hubs are one of the manliest things i have ever owned) and in 4L, it just kept on truckin'. I have no idea how.
downside: it was the SLOWEST thing i have ever owned. dear lord, it was slow.

selling the truck this summer and buying a new ranger hopefully.

i'd say the ranger is better than the dakota, even though the dakota is a tank. my friend has had his for quite some time now and the thing is indestructible. i've had my ranger for a couple months now and i'm really loving it, plus with the new mods and parts, i've really gotten it looking good. Ford > Dodge > Chevy. IMO.
