Too bad no more Rangers....
I dunno.. the past stuff is decent too! I've never been disappointed with a single ford that i've owned. Aside from the ranger and the mustang I also have a 99 contour v6, leather, moonroof, 5 speed that I bought from my father.. He purchased it brand new.. That thing drives just as nicely and quietly as it did when it was brand new. Impressive fit and finish.. comfort, and durability. The contour is a solid little car.

I had a Taurus some years ago too.. that thing took a shit kickin and kept rockin.. I also had a 92 Aerostar XL 5 speed for a little bit.. Got it cheap.. and it was a 5 speed which I thought was bad ass.. It was headed for the wrecker but I intercepted it and saved er! Got it for $200 and hell the AC still even worked.. I put 30000km on that thing in about 8 months without a hiccup.

I've had other mustangs and shit as well as my 07 ranger.. I've loved all my ford products and all my honda stuff i've owned as well. I've owned dakotas, rams, sierras, jimmys, etc... they're all junk... every last one of em. Although the 4x4 sierra with the 350 could pull a bus out of a ditch sideways on ice.. impressive in that department.. but junk in the reliability dept.

I'd say the old toyota's from the 80's and of course the rangers are the best. A coworker of mine still drives his 85' toyota pickup he bought brand new in 85'. It's banged up on the exterior but still runs.

as much as ford is "stepping up" their stock keeps dropping!!! Ive lost like somewhere between 200-300 dollars on it this past month/month and a half. Hopefully thats cause theyre spending money to make thier vehicles more awesome and everyone starts buying again soon!!!

i can't say the ranger because mine has always had problems. But my buddy's 99 tacoma has over 200k miles with pure abuse on it and it has never ever had a mechanical problem. Only thing he broke on it was a lower bail joint from jumping it over and over and over again. Then we upgraded his suspension to long travel with Uniballs and he has not had any problems at all with it after that. Toyota tacomas are just plain out the best imho. Yea i have a ranger but thats all i could afford at the time. taco's were 2 to 3 grand more on top of what i paid. dodge sucks and s10's are just cheep and are junk. Thats my honest opinion.

I'm handling my '10 Super 4cyl auto with kid gloves, man. Still haven't hit my 7500 mile maintenance yet, but everything's all good (of course). I keep it under 65 on the freeway, wash once/week, wax once/month, tire pressure at 30. I get pissed at my girl if she's driving it and steps on it too hard (because the transmission is a bit slow and shifts hard if you punch it).

Something else I don't like about it is that the power window motors don't operate at the same speed.

I do love that my '10 is great on gas...I get 400 miles from F to a bit past fuel light! Pretty darn close to the '07 Camry 4cyl auto I had prior.

A small pickup is such a useful vehicle with great resale. If I don't run it to 200K miles for 15 years (I can't imagine I won't), somebody else will.

I ask because I bought my '10 XLT Super 4cyl Auto in September as my second choice. An equivalent Tacoma was my first choice, but too expensive for me. I have loyalty to Ford, as I used to own an '89 Ranger. While I did love it, it wasn't exactly cheap to own over the course of seven years (new brakes, clutch/flywheel, engine, two starters/solenoid, rear end gasket, and more).

Ranger? Tacoma? Colorado/Canyon? Frontier? Dodge (is it still Dakota?)

Thanks for your time!
Nissan Frontier what a machine!

I have owned Isuzu, Dodge Ram,and Toyota as well.
I do like the aftermarket part availability on Toyota, but The Ranger isn't too far behaind.
It gives me a great feeling to own an AMERICAN VEHICLE ,Chevy gets over rated, and with that in mind , GO FORD!!!

General Motors had way to many vehicles in all of there product lines. Make 100 different cars so everyone on the planet can have one just the way they want it but make them all so cheap the just fall apart.

But you still here more people saying the are a Chevy fan than Ford. Ford biggest issue in previous year is that they were not cool. They made reliable cars but it was just the same old stuff all the time. They are now begining to change that.

I don't know much about any other truck than the ford ranger, but I was talking to one of the maintenance guys at my school and he said in 1990 the school bought 5 brand new Rangers and 5 Dakotas. All the trucks get the same amount of use and are all maintenanced together. Out of the Rangers all 5 are still in use, but there are only 2 Dakotas left. That's enough for me to be sold on the Ranger being more reliable than a Dakota.

honestly I think the best small pickup is the tecoma. (That counts right?)

If i were going to drive a small pickup as my only car it would be that.

But i needed a pickup for pure utility, so I chose a base ranger due to it being cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain and less complicated (fewer things to go wrong).

the chevy colorado looks like a piece of crap and the canyon costs too much for the same exact truck.

The dakota is so expensive you might as well just get a 1500.

This is solid data. Pretty irrefutable if you ask me. I wonder how that scenario would work with Tacomas instead of Dakotas.

Yeah, no idea. The only thing it doesn't help with is knowing the overall reliability of both. It just gives one model year. It was funny because I read this thread in the morning, went out to my truck in the garage and saw the maintenance friend of mine getting into one of the Rangers and it happened to come up.
