Re: Business idea--comments/suggestions plz
Sorry buddy, but I don't think it's a very good business idea. If I am getting the jist of it, you're basically saying you want to be a Ranger only junk yard. How do you plan on making money? Do you plan on picking the parts up for free? Say I call you with a price from my local yard for an OHC at whatever the going rate is for them for YOU to go and pick it. Are you going to sell me the part for the same price that the junk yard right down the street is going to sell it? No. You may say you will, but how is that cost effective? You have labor in pulling the part (time is money my friend), you have shipping to contend with, and then you have an angry customer if the part doesn't fit or work. How many Ranger owners in Indiana do you think are going to buy the parts from you? Do you have a client base that you are already working with who seem interested in the idea? What's your overhead going to be? Are you going to keep things in stock at all times, or are you going to go get the part from the JY after it's paid for?
Not trying to be a dick, just throwing these questions out there for ya. Working for yourself isn't all it's cracked up to be. Getting started is the hardest part and when you have an idea in a market that is REALLY competitive (I'm only guessing the market for used auto parts is competitive because there are only millions of junk yards in the world) it's even harder.
My suggestion is do this as a hobby that might make you a couple of bucks. Start out small by getting parts a lot of people want, and sell them on eBay for a reasonable price. You're going to have guys like me who are frugal as fuck shop around, so be competitive. Even if you get a part worth $50, don't expect to make more then a couple of bucks on it at first. If you get a 10% profit ($5), it's a start.
