Re: Duel gas tank on a ranger
I have only seen 2-4 with dual tanks. They stopped that after the 80's

Re: Duel gas tank on a ranger
I agree with Mykhael, dual tanks weren't available on a Ranger after 92 at the latest. Definitely an 80's thing.

Re: Duel gas tank on a ranger
Got dual tanks on mine
and my rear tank sending unit is shot to! Gauge works fine for the front but the rear is always "empty" .
Time to replace the sender so I went to the junkyard and actually found a dual-tank ranger with the bed off (made it easy to get the whole in-tank setup)
I've seen a fair amount of the dual-tank setups out here, probably a dozen and I've only owner a ranger for 2mo.

It could very well be the sending unit in the tank, and the float being bent/broken/stuck. I've seen it happen on every make/model.
I got lucky, I went to drop my tank yesterday and noticed after it was loosened up that there were 2 electrical stud/connecters sticking out of the tank (the ONLY electrical connection on a carb'd tank), and there we're no wires! I traced the wiring harness and all the way back ath the firewall found the black/yellow and black wire that were cut. I soldered in 2 new connectors and filled her up and watched my gauge go up

I believe they stopped doing the dual tanks in 88.

Re: Duel gas tank on a ranger
What's the fuel capacity of each tank?
Location of the 2nd tank?
Is tank 2 only feeding tank 1 or to the engine as well?
How is the switching done between tanks?
Think it would be possible to add it to a new Ranger?
I'd love to be going 1000km's between fills for that I'd need about another 10-14 gal over my stock tank

Front tank is 17Gallons
Rear tank is 13.5 ( when TOTALLY dry, 12.75 when "empty")
Dashboard throw switch to go from tank -to tank. There's a solenoid under the truck that physically swaps the line.
Mine is carberated, this makes it a fair amount easier as there is 0 pressure in the tank. For an EFI system your best bet is to get a whole tank with everything in the tank (pump/pickuip/sending unit etc) from something else and fit it in there.
My rear tank is located between the frame rails where a factory spare tire would go under the rear end. YES you can still have a trailer hitch in there ( no difference).
I litterally drive on the rear tank first until the truck starts slowing down, then throw the switch and let the front tank pick it up.
I go about 600mi between fill ups in town. or about 800mi on the highway.
Possible to add to your truck? TOTALLY! It's easy.
Grab a chiltons and look at the wiring diagram for the old dual tank system(probably page 6-28->6-33, it's a piece of cake to wire it in (easier than a head unit swap). The hardest part will be physically mounting the tank and making it bolt in and fit and clearance everything well.
I live/drive in very rural areas often where I'm 80-100mi to ANY filling station, so I'm actually looking at getting a Bronco II 23 gallon tank (sits between the frame rails too) and trying to swap my rear 13 gallon out for that one so I could hold a combined 40gallons, go 1000mi without stops!
Who knows. If I moved the exhaust from the passenger side a little more towards the driveshaft I could probably fit another factory 17 gallon on the passenger side .

Do you still have a spare tire? Where is it?
