What engine/year for best MPG daily driver???
Hey guy's I am looking for a single cab short bed ranger for a little project truck and daily driver. I would like to know what is the best year and engine ie (2.4 3.0 4.0) I should buy in order to get the best MPG's. Also what type of price range should I be looking to spend. I have been looking for about a month now and really need help in makeing the best descion. Im finding 04-06 4banger for like 6-7k with 100k miles and 97-2003 with 125k for 4-6k. Thanks a million guys looking to buy asap.

if you could score a reg cab short box with a 4.0 that would be the best just because the truck would be light. say over an ext cab 4x4 model

2.3 reg cab short box 2wd 5 spd, xl since it has no power options or carpet and and a basic lightweight radio, might save you .01 mpg just by using xl.

my '99 2.5L 2WD gets 25-28mpg

I have a 2.3 5-speed ext cab and Iam getting 29-30 mpg combined hwy/cty if you drive it on the easy side.

hahaha, im seeing 24-29 MPGs. wish i could be so lucky at times. im at about 16-17 around town. 4.0 V6- love the power though!

damn lol ive got the 3.0 edge and i get 17 haha but the power is worth it imo!

With my 04, 2wd 2.3L ranger I get 25-29mpg.
Sure wish it was a 4x4
