More than that.
There is a multiplier effect when wealth is created. The farmer spends money on seed and equipment and tires, etc. A lot of that is made in USA. People who make that stuff buy groceries and cars and CD's.... On and on. In other words there is a multiplier effect when wealth is created. Some economists estimate about 10 times. Every time somebody makes a profit down the chain they pay a percentage in taxes. Maybe a pot hole gets fixed on your street. The Army can keep wars being fought a few thousand miles away...

Some Saudi oil sheik gets the same dollar where does he put the money? Mercedes and De Beers?

I know. But the problem is, nobody is going to regularly purchase a product to allow that to happen... when the product sucks. If E85 wasn't more of a hinderence than a help, more people with so-equipped vehicles would actually buy it. And it would actually be available at stations everywhere.

Domestic fuel, what more could we ask for. It's what everyone's been bitching about and wants. But I'm not going to buy a product that sucks and makes things worse just so everyone but me can benefit from it.

There is a reason that gasoline and diesel fuel are still the primary energy source for vehicles. It is the cheapest most efficient fuel to operate a vehicle with to date. Nothing else has been found that performs better for the money as of yet.

Basicly you guys are partially right and wrong at the same time. If you look at the pump now and the history involved, PURE ETHANOL OR E100 was all you had when Henry Ford first rolled a T bucket off his assembly line in 1908. There was no such thing as a gas station or gasoline for that matter. Then proabition destroyed that. Ethanol is an oxygenated fuel so it burns cleaner than gasoline, but to run it requires extensive mods which aint cheap. The other things is you can produce ethanol for about $1 buck a gallon at home and you don't need corn either. All you need is sugar, water and yeast. PURE ETHANOL OR E100 IS RATED AT 120 OCTANE. Try getting racing fuel at that level for about a dollar per gallon. That aint happening. So yes it does have it's advantages as well as disadvantages. try this website out to see for yourselves: www.microfueler.com . So do I thing it might be worth it? sure. That's a way of telling huge oil companies who really don't give 2 shits about you, all it really boils down to is pure greed. Here's what sold ethanol to me: I saw a guy from Venezuela complain about $.48 cents per gallon some time ago. When I saw that on CNBC I got pissed, and thought he ought to come here to the states and buy gasoline. He'd quit bitchin for sure about his prices compared to ours wouldn't he. IF YOU FOLLOW THE MONEY CONCERNING BIG OIL COMPANIES youd find that the profit they truly made on 1 gallon gasoline is gut wrenching. So being able to produce your own fuel would be kinda kool but there are a few trade offs involved just like everything else in life. The point you guys should google "make your own fuel" and research it and draw your own conclusions based on what you find and your own experiences before any snap judgments. I've drove a flexfueld vehicle a few times and really couldn't tell the difference between the 2 on both ethanol and gasoline I COULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE AT ALL, of course I did add a bottle of Lucas Upper Cylinder lube though for both fuels.
