+1 on 2wd rangers getting stuck on wet grass... I too have owned both.. and the 2wd is brutal in any offroad situation

I just picked up a grill guard off a Bronco II at the junkyard. Tossing it on my 2wd tomorrow. I regularly drive 300-500mi/wk in it, mostly mountain highway, some forest service roads, year round. I figure the grill guard is worth it considering I've hit 3 deer and an elk in my Jeep.

I feel pretty confident in it, have driven through 6-8"of snow on dirt roads with consistent momentum and minimized steering input.
All that being said: I wouldn't take it anywhere I would take the XJ.

I don't understand why people think a bear is going to do as much damage as a moose. Then again, the deer around here are usually bigger then a bear (not as many grizzlies as people think around here, and black bears aren't all that huge) and the highways speeds here are ridiculous.

If you're not looking for protection, then you wouldn't be asking about a brush guard. Duh! And they look fine on a two wheel drive, who cares? If you want one, get one. In my experience, they don't help out that much. A custom bumper is the only way to go to keep from getting the animals from doing some body work for ya.

I think the traction control system works wonders in normal conditions (1 foot of snow, etc) I live in Canada and my 2wd has not gotten stuck in the snow yet

Oh the traction control is definitely badass.. II didn't have it in my 2wd 2007 ... Like I said in another thread, I don't use 4x4 in snow most of the time because the traction control is so great..

But that being said.. traction control will only take you so far.. You're not one of them.. but a few 2wd'ers around here feel they can do the same shit as a 4x4 for some reason.

cant we at least try? lol i know my trucks limits for the most part though
