Anyway to verify that on the filter? I know some vehicles have an oil and filter change interval of 10,000 miles with petroleum oil and a filter made by Fram.

The only time I've ever seen an oil filter being separated from an oil change is if a vehicle falls into the severe maintenance category and then, the oil is changed in half the usual time but the filter is not. For example: My CR-V requires an oil and filter change every 7,500 miles under the normal maintenance schedule but if I do something to fall under the severe schedule (like towing or driving off road) , at 3,750 miles, I need to change the oil but not the filter.

I prefer synthetic but the prices make me get regular oil, but synthetic is better then regular oil.

i run eco power, tried mobil products, not a fan, have used Amsoil too and that stuff is awesome but too damn expensive. synthetic is better for ur seals, i switch with like 20k on my truck and she runs a lot better vs conventional oils

No more then 3k miles on oil/filter. Why not just take care of the truck? Going any longer or running quarts low is so bad for the engine.. Ruins your interior components and you get all that varnish and coke deposits inside.. not worth it.

It depends on how many miles your truck has on it. Royal Purple is a really good oil but it's expensive. Royal Purple also has a "break in" oil spefically for new engines and fresh rebuilds. Using synthetic I noticed a smoother idle, my truck also ran a little bit better under acceleration as well. STAY AWAY FROM QUAKERSTATE OILS. I call it liquid shit in a bottle. Basicly here are the oils I recomend: CASTROL, ROYAL PURPLE, AMS OIL, AND VALVOLINE. Also look closely. Some oils have been formulated for engines with 75,000 miles or higher.

Have had several people say switching to synth in an engine over 100k is alright, and several people say not to. So which is it?

For most modern engines, it isn't a problem regardless of the mileage. The ones to worry about are the engines that use cork gaskets, bascally engines from the '70s and back. Those are the ones that were known to spring a leak if you switched from dino oil to synthetic.

For what it's worth, my CR-V had 127,000 miles on it when I got it and it isn't leaking, nor is the engine in my Ranger which had 83,000 miles on it when I got it from the junk yard.

If your engine is fairly new (not more than 10 or 15 years old) it shouldn't be a problem. I also went to 10W30 over the 5W20 whiich is what my truck calls for. The 10W30 is a little thicker and lubed alot better. But even with the stock oil viscosity (5W20) I noticed an improvement.

I agree. Basicly engines from th the late 70's and early 80's is the ones with oil leak issues, because back then they didn't stuff like copper gaskets, or make your own gasket kits, they didn't have synthetic oils either. I remember my dad coming from work cussing about clogged carbs, and severe oil leaks. There was an old saying about diesel engines that comes to mind to. If it aint leaking oil, it aint got no oil.

Just recently switched over to synthetic on my 98 ranger. I
Def get better mileage and runs smoother. No leaks fortunately =)

ok i answerd my own question i looked it up
from what i read you can switch back and forth anytime you want or even mix the two. but its a good idea to top off with the same oil you are running in it. pretty common sense yay

Current Ford Motorcraft oils are 1/2 synthetic and 1/2 dino oils. It's called syntec blend. You can find these oils just about anywhere including walmart.
