Default What should I buy?

Black 98 Ranger 134k mileage, stepside, V6 4.0L (Dealer)
$4250 (20 min far from my place)

Gray 99 Ranger 120k mileage, stepsie, billet grille, kicker speaker and pioneer head unit. Hit deer last year so replaced light and grill.(Private)
(1 hour far from my place)
$4000

What kinda things should I be careful when I buy privately?
I never buy a car from private party.
I checked the black one and it is runs great and pretty clean.
Gray one, I need to check today.
Thanks ya'll

That gray one is sweet looking! It's almost a gun metal gray color...very nice. Is the dealer giving you a warranty? Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with buying from a private party as long as you get all the facts up front, test drive it, look it up and down, check to make sure the frame is straight (from the deer accident), and even see if they will let you have it checked by a mechanic.

I might look small and yes, I'm a chick, but I shoot, throw, hit, and hunt. I highly suggest you don't mess with my truck!

Not real sure what you mean by "notify". Can you explain what you mean? Around here you pay the guy, he signs the title over to you and then you take it to the BMV (or DMV depending on what yours is called) and register it. You pay for the taxes, title, and registration at that time. They give you temporary tags, register it in your name, and send you the new title through the mail.

----------

Sometimes, if you can get the previous owner to do it, no matter what you ACTUALLY paid for it, see if you can get him to write the amount paid on the title as LESS than what you actually paid. The taxes are based on a percentage of the amount paid. So the lower the amount he writes on the title when he signs it over to you the lower taxes you will have to pay.

I think you mean "Notarized" If thats the case I believe the seller would have to do this before you could take the title to the DMV

O and the truck looks good! I like the gray more than the black too

This is true. I had the seller do this when I bought my Bronco

AH! Ok, that makes since! Here in Indiana we no longer have to have them notarized, but if your state still has that law then that means the title has to be signed over in front of a notary public. (There is usually one in a bank). Don't both parties have to be present when it's notarized though, like most other documents?

Technically yes, If the bank is doing it then they will require both parties to be present.

There is also a fee for getting something notarized, unless you do it at a bank that you belong to. So if the guy needs it notarized he should go to HIS bank so you don't have to pay.

What is that?

DOH!! Never mind. I get it!

The only other thing you might want to ask is if (because of the accident) it has a rebuilt title. Doesn't sound like it was anything bad enough to warrant the insurance company to salvage it out, but you should still find out before you make the decision. If it IS a rebuilt title that doesn't mean you shouldn't still buy it, but it could mean there was something about the accident that made the insurance company total the vehicle, in which case you would really want to check it out with a mechanic just to be sure.

Yes, I meant notarize!
It is complicated to buy a car from private party.
I try to meet him evening (bank and tag angency closed early, also he wants to meet in evening.)
If I buy from dealer I don't need to go to DPS(DMV) to pay the taxes right?
The $4250 include taxes.. otd price. Price would be same. but problem is notarization.
Thank you all!! it is really helped!

Lots of different places and people can notarize stuff. I think our local Mail Box Store (UPS/USPS Cant remember the exact name of the place) can do it and they are open a little later than the average business. Chances are you probably know somebody that is a notary and don't even know it so ask around. Good Luck, hopefully you are a Ranger owner soon!

Thank you so much!
I heard usp or fedex doing notarize.
And I saw one of the foms provide from DMV(DPS) from the internet.
Can I use that form instead of notarize?

http://www.dmv.org/ok-oklahoma/bill-of-sale.php

Which is form 722-1.

Sorry man not to sure on the specifics of Oklahoma. If I had to guess I would say that if they want it notarized then that's what you will need to do and probably nothing else can be used in its place.

If I were you I would just call the DMV, talk to someone in person and have them explain to you exactly what you will need and how the process goes.
