Default Check Engine Light

My 2000 Ford Ranger is giving me fits lately. I cant get it to pass emissions and the latest problem seems to be, per the good folks at Good Year, that my check engine light will not come on and off at start up. I was told that the light was blown and it would be 100 bux for them to fix it. I figured since i just changed the upper control arms and lower ball joints my self i can handle this. Can any one help me or point me in the right direction? Thanks !!
