Default Matter of Opinion.....

So ive seen the ranger dually. in theory i like it but not sure of its such a good idea. i did a very basic sketch of my plan for it. my scanner didnt do the greatest job but itll do for now. basically its alot of conversions and work. i plan to drop in a diesel after my motor dies, take in mind its a 2005, i got it with 68k back in july/august and now have around 73K+. to go along with the diesel would be the dually of course and possibly a new transmission to allow me to change it from 4x2 to 4x4. then would come prerunner fenders and a shell. pros of this is traction and possibly better towing. cons are the vehicle is now much larger so all the negatives such as turning is wider and handling is worse, its going to cost $$$$ since im pretty much gutting the thing and replacing the engine, transmission, exhaust, both axels, and all the mounts for everything. this would be my daily driver and outdoors vehicle for camping, hunting, fishing, etc., so "off-roading" is on the menu. any opinions?

Seen some guys do a Ford Courier dually.

Weight may be a problem when towing a heavy load.

I like the Idea one person has done it before minus the engine swap.

a super duty would be nice... but im not a fan of the direction ford has taken with the 2011, i like the ram 3500 alot better, mainly because its still offered as a stick shift instead of the wanna-be select shift

heres a touch up on the pic. the more i think about this the more and more i see the cons of it. for towing i wouldnt be towing more (weight) than the average person would; small boat, tear drop, etc. motivation for doing this is definantly for the look of a unique looking rig, i doubt itd perform that much better for off road than a reguler ranger would since the adding traction and weight distribution is also coupled with a lot more weight....

x2 it would probably be cheaper and you say you don't like the 2011 then get a older year for the one you like.

i think if you swap the engine, axles (and gears), you can increase the towing capacity but thatd be alotta money and TIME!!

ive considered it alot. i think the smart choice is to get a larger truck. this is because in reality, the ranger is a small truck meant to handle smaller loads and be quicker(er) and more manuverable. this would definantly take away from that.

----------

in terms of time, well id have a lot of time since this build would be broken up into pieces. all drive train components would probably wait till the engine died. i just checked my spedometer and its only at 78k miles so this is not really in the near future. plus finding the right diesel i want to put in is gonna take alot of time to find, since it would either (a) have to match up with my existing transmission or (b) match up with another manual transmisson. this is definantly gonna be a lot of work. i helped my father rebuild his current boat when i was a lot younger. what was supposed to be a 2yr rebuild took closer to 4.... though boats and trucks have very little in common minus the engine since the engine we dropped in there is essentially a gm v6 truck/muscle car engine.
