Default Finally, I might getting a ranger tomorrow!!

I found a good one.
98 ranger xlt, v6 4.0L, 4d( pretty sure) 130k mileage, stepside, very clean inside and outside, tow package, clean tire, factory magnum wheel.
They posted $4500 but I tried to ask $3500 (i think I will pay upto 4k)
Is this a good price and deal??
I hope I upload the pic of my truck tomorrow!
Thanks!

is it 4x4? If it is, that's a pretty fair deal. Even for a 4x2 that's not too bad.

I haven't test drive this one yet because of its Sunday (All the dealers close on Sun in my place.) I will be there again after lunch and probably buy it. This truck will be my only ride. Thanks!

Ah didn't know it was a dealer.

Good luck talking a dealer down that much. If you have cash it will increase your odds.

Varies. Wife and I both bought from dealers in the last year. Cash didn't impress 'em. If your credit is passable they like to make all the loan fees etc.
Of course you'll pay a lot more in the long run that from a credit union or bank. At least carry a printout of other Rangers for sale that you "want to look at if they don't want your money". They like to keep you on the lot 'til the deal is done if your offer is close to what they need. Check the NADA price tonight. Even if you can't remember every little detail - guess, you won't be far off and you can adjust the number when you get there.

Good luck

i just spent way too much on my 99 4x4 xlt, but i did talk the guy down a solid amount, i printed out like 6 comparable rangers out and brought them in with me as well as the kelly blue book value. he was asking above blue book, and i managed to get a grand off but i financed so i am still paying a lot more. out here rangers are worth a lot more it seems, it would almost be worth it to fly out there and drive one back to save 2-3k...

Unless it's really perfect, I wouldn't be quick to pay $4k for it. I'd go in there nice and cool.. Tell him your dead serious about it, but the price is out of line. Do like the other poster said and bring in similar for sale ads from Craigslist and Blue book values. Point out all the minor issues you find with him. Then make an offer for a few hundred less than you even want to get it for.

My '95 was for sale at $2300. I offered $1400 - he was willing to take $1500. It was pretty clean and straight with only 70k miles.

I wouldn't ridiculously low ball him..but if this is a dealer, he's used to hearing offers and won't be offended. Don't be afraid to offer low, especially if it looks like it will need any/much work. Keep in mind stuff can be expensive and add up quick.

I thought I got a good deal with mine at $1500 - I have probably put $1500+ into it since I bought it. Needed tires, heads, shocks, coils, ball joints, on and on, etc.. In hindsight, $500 would have been more like the right price lol
