Default To dump or not dump my Ranger

My 2009 Ranger has 53000 kms on it and it already has transmisson problems. The problem started on Thursday when the truck is put into reverse it does a hard kick. So I took it into the dealership where I bought it they thought it was a seal that bursted but turns out it was not.

So I went into the same dealership where they have had the truck for a day to pick up a loaner F-150. I saw my Ranger in the air with the transmission pan removed and saw what I called a maze board. The mechanic told me the truck does a kick when put into drive now. Now the dealership is waiting on the call from Ford before they can do a repair and a further inspection on the truck and yes it is still under warrenty.

My question is this wait for my Ranger to be repaired and pay it down and trade it in for a F-150 or keep the Ranger until it drops and reaches 250000 kms. My fear is when i get the truck back whose to say that at 75000 kms the warrenty is gone and something else does not go wrong with the transmission.

Sell it and buy one with a manual.

Changing to a F150 won't solve anything if you drive the same.
If its not about the way you drive (just bad luck), i don't see why the repaired transmission would automatically give you problems.

Hard Kick in Reverse ...My first guess would have been the U-Joints, But if it IS the tranny, it could just be the valve body. I would have the tranny fixed and keep the Ranger till it dies...possibly 20+ years from now!
Besides ...You would have to go to a F150 forum if you sold your ranger! LOL

My Ranger is the first truck I bought off a dealership brand new so it has sentimental value. But the transmission problem really is pushing the straw on wether i keep it or not. I do want to keep it but I am thinking down the road if another transmission problem happenes or if I expand my family I need something bigger like a Silverado or an F-150.

I'd keep it, at least for now. If they fixed the tranny, then great and you don't have to go through the hassle of finding another ride. If they didn't, then most likely it would show signs before the warranty expires.

My buddy's 08 goes into drive hard, and my 97 goes into reverse hard, i wouldn't worry about it. It just gives it character. It might go next week, it might go next decade. I just put some Lucas Oil Transmission treatment in mine, see if that helps. Mechanic said everything looked fine, maybe it's just a Ranger thing.
