Default rats in engine bay

Does anyone have any proven ways to keep rats/mice out of the engine bay of the truck??
I have footprints, as well as a few droppings on all kinds of stuff under there, a/c compressor, heater core hoses, radiator fan shroud, brake booster, power steering equipment... I don't want them staying in there, and eventually eating important wiring or some such. they haven't eaten anything yet.
thanks

oh, and parking in the garage is not a option

yeah, poison is the obvious choice, but i live right next to a 6000 acre park, and I would never be able to wipe out the whole population, there will always be more. Is there anything that will just deter them, so none of them try coming up into the engine?

ghost z is that serious advice?

Rats love sewers...
sewers are like 300% ammonia

I would try not filling your engine bay with cheese.

but seriously rats are hard motherf'ers to keep out of anything. You might consider talking to an exterminator and seeing if you can get some of that high grade chicken cage style mesh. Put that stuff over any places a rat could stick his nose into and that hsould keep them out of your engine bay for awhile anyways.

Try cleaning your engine bay with Gunk engine brite, that puts out a nasty chemical smell even after being rinsed, see how that does

You might try throwing moth balls around your truck, it works wonders on keeping snakes away... maybe it would work on rats.

I used to have squirrels get under another vehicle I had, one day I started it up & Whirrrzingpopflapflap! one of them got caught in the fan belt! It tore the belt off & messed up the insulation, but never had another squirrel under the hood.
The squirrel was nothing more than a little fur & blood on the driveway. Never did find all of him.
