Try Bobcat urine from a trapping supply outfit. Happened to my ex wife. Rat ate about 900 dollars worth of wiring. She squirted the stuff all over the tires and sprinkled some on top of the engine. No rat problems so far. Smell problem.. probably.

Poison or a cat. The cat will probably work better. Get a nice feral farm cat, they won't want to come in your house and will stay away from you as well.

Pretty much every vehicle that sits outside will get some mice under it's hood.

If the problem looks somewhat severe (nests), I would try mothballs.

I used to have squirrels get under another vehicle I had, one day I started it up & Whirrrzingpopflapflap! one of them got caught in the fan belt! It tore the belt off & messed up the insulation, but never had another squirrel under the hood.
The squirrel was nothing more than a little fur & blood on the driveway. Never did find all of him.
Used to have an 85 impala and one of our cats took a nap in the bottom of the fan shroud. Nobody knew and my dad started the car and that was the end of the poor kitty.

but get a cat or 2, my parents have 5 and dont see any mice except dead ones on the doorstep

im tuning into this thread lol when i lived at an apt during my job, i had cats get on my truck to keep warm and theyd scratch it or leave mud prints all over the hood, my solution was a citrus based liquid and just rub it on the hood...never had a problem again

and i know cats r diffy than mice haha

Cat.............. Rats and mice were destroying my 94 Ram not just in the winter but in the summer they chewed every inch of washer fluid hose looking for a drink. After many $ spent on sticky traps and other stuff I got a spayed female cat at the animal defense and two years latter there has been no rodent activity whatsoever. Plus the little cat keeps the birds from crapping all over my boat and trucks under the carport.

I have footprints, as well as a few droppings on all kinds of stuff under there, a/c compressor, heater core hoses, radiator fan shroud, brake booster, power steering equipment... I don't want them staying in there, and eventually eating important wiring or some such. they haven't eaten anything yet.
thanks

oh, and parking in the garage is not a option
Guess I'm the first to notice that rat-guy is located in "America's Finest City". Anybody else see the humor in that?

Old folks with RV's share the problem and use moth balls. If you decide to squeeze the piss out of a bobcat have your widow post a link to the YouTube video.
