Default Do I need a tow hitch?

I need to tow a 22' Sea-Doo boat. Do I need a hitch or can I use just a ball in the back bumper? I have it wired for lights just need to know whether anyone thinks I need a hitch. Towing from NC to Texas.

Never use the back bumper to haul something like that. Does terrible things to your truck. Get a level III hitch from Reece. you can find that at Tractor Supply Company.

could you haul more like a 13ft boat on the bumper? (not trying to steal your thread)

IMO, dont pull anything off the bumper that has any value. it has a limit but its very low. get a Class III hitch.

I tow my jetski with my bumper hitch, but that doesn't weigh much. I would never get a hitch for my truck because its a 4cyl. The bumper is rated higher than the truck is for towing.

my ranger's previous owner towed with the bumper hitch, he defiantly messed up the plastic cover on it but it doesnt look bent in any way. I think its ok to use the bumper hitch for light trailers

i have seen some catastrophic failures from bumper towing when i lived out on a lake, people ripping off the back bumper and messing up their boats or trailers. dont do it! when you drop a boat into the water its nice and light and down hill, when you pull it out, the back of the trailer gets heavy cause all the water moves to the back of the boat, that pulls on the tow ball which pulls on the bumper which can snap things.

i have a ball on my bumper but thats just because i bought the truck with it on there and i just haven't took it off and but my hitch on yet. my grandfather and my father always told me never to pull anything with just the bumper unless it is made to.

I understand the concern, but I never tow anything that weighs too much. My jetski and trailer weigh probably 600 lbs. I towed my buddies boat 8 hours round trip with no issues. The boat probably weighs less than my jetski.
It's a small ski...

The boat...
