Default Squealing and I made it worse!

Ok, so I'm an idiot. When I bought the truck 4 days ago I noticed a very small (very small) squeal in the engine, but it was so minor that I figured it was just because of the cold weather.

Yesterday I noticed the squeal was louder so I bought this belt spray stuff and sprayed the serpentine belt. Now the squeal is way louder! What did I do? What does this mean?

Alternator belt, serpentine belt, tensioner? How would I go about finding what is making it squeal.

If it helps any the squeal seems to get a little worse when the truck is idling and a little better when I hit the gas.

I might look small and yes, I'm a chick, but I shoot, throw, hit, and hunt. I highly suggest you don't mess with my truck!

Never Spray the belt. Does the sqeak only happen at idle? or while accelerating?

Damn! Probably would have been better to ask BEFORE I sprayed it!

It continues to happen even when accelerating, but seems to get less intense. When idling you can really hear it. (Could just be that the sound lessens because of the sound of the truck moving though and I just can't tell as much.)

its probably time to replace the serpentine belt, but you could try washing it first. take the belt off and soak it in hot water with a little dish soap in it then rinse it well and put it back on. while you have the belt off check the idler and tensioner pullys to make sure they arent shot.

If I rev it up the squeal seems to go away, but resumes right away when I let off the gas.

if the belt is the original, you should just replace it. especially now since you sprayed some stuff on it.

Can I repost and say that I DIDN'T spray anything on it to make myself look like less of an idiot! LOL

So if I replace the belt and it still squeals that means it's something else? Wouldn't it be cheaper to see if I can figure out what it is first or is that kind of impossible?

----------

Idler pulley, serpentine belt. What are we talking expense wise here?

Does the belt look shiny? If it does, replace it. Its been wore down too much. If that doesnt work, then move on to the next possible options, idler, tensioner, and if it wasnt the belt in the first place its just a belt it needed replacement anyways.

Yes, the belt looks shiny! Ok, off to go buy a belt! Hopefully that's all it is and like you all said, if it isn't then it didn't hurt to put a new one on anyway!

You guys are the best! Thank you!

Kat, look for a goodyear gator back belt if youre getting a new one. they are a bit more money than the other belts but they are less prone to squeaking.

By the way, obviously I am not mechanically inclined, but I want this truck to be something I eventually know all about and I want to learn to do things myself for a change when it comes to a vehicle.

So thank you for having patience with me!

Should I video tape myself putting the belt on! LMAO! That would be quite entertaining! (Probably not something youngin's should listen to as I am sure there will be quite a few choice words in there!), but I'm going to give it a shot.
