Default 1996 XLT Super Cab 2WD 4.0 Towing

Hi

Forgive me if I posted this in the wrong forum. I am at work and trying to do this covertly. I have the aforementioned Ranger Pickup truck. I am going to get a hitch for it and want to know the maximum weight I can pull. Thinking of a boat with a full tank of gas. I looked at the manual and it doesn't make sense. Just need one number: the max weight using a hitch (not the bumper) Thank you for your help. I hope you are having a nice day so far.

It depends on the class I/II/III/IV/V of the hitch, I would think 5000 lbs. should be good, traction out of water may be an issue so you may need some weight over rear axle (sandbags, etc.)

easy..

class three hitch (always!!) those are up to 5000 which is what the ranger is capable of including the GVWR (6000)

towing is about 2500 for most trucks with people and stuff in it (SHOULD NEVER EXCEED 6000 TOTAL FOR MOST RANGERS)

----------

plus having a class three means u can do stuff with it an dnot have it bend like other hitches.....

----------

traction should not be an issue unless ur tires are bald or ur on ice! or sand...

Sooooo...I am not clear. Is it 2500 pounds or 5000? Note: if you say 5000 and you were wrong I may be calling you from the side of the road, somewhere between St. Louis and Chicago

5000 is excessive but thats not what the manual says lol the manual says 2500 but psst psst 5000 is probably okay...just watch the heat!!!!

----------

which means going 55 mph or less and giving it breaks lol honestly i wouldnt risk 5000
