Default Buying a truck that was hit?

In my search for a Ranger I've come across a 2004 XLT with 35k miles. According to the dealer it is at, they bought it at autcion with a dented front fender and scratched up front bumper. They replaced the fender and bumper and are now selling it for $9500. I asked if they had a Carfax and they said they did not, and they did not know how many owners it had. The guy also said he still has the original fender so I could see the damage that was done. Would you guys buy a truck that had been hit if it was fixed up, or would you still stay away? Thanks!

I certainly would, but not from a dealer because they want too much money! My truck is a rebuild and I love it. Does that dealer show it as a salvage title or rebuild?

Mine was wrecked and fixed up before i bought it. It runs like a champ, would never know it was in an accident. I think the best advice in a situation like this is, check it over with a fine tooth comb, ask questions about about anything that looks suspicious, and if it looks to good to be true it probably is. Personally though, i wouldn't shy away from a vehicle if it was in a wreck, i'd just want to know more info about it.

that seems a bit steep, but depends, its not too bad if it comes with a warranty. i might delve into it more, but yeah check out the stock fender.

Check it over with a fine tooth comb. My old '00 kissed a tree hard back in 09, and the guy I sold it to fixed it up and is still driving it to this day. It's not a matter of whether the truck looks good, it's a matter of how well the repair was performed, and whether or not everything affected by the accident was addressed.

that wouldn't steer me away. i'd look at the axel to make sure it's not bent or anything, but by the looks of the truck, i'd like to drive it. low miles. very nice. don't let a little fender bender keep you away from a good buy. And i'll tell you what the guy who i bought my ranger from said about car facts. It's only as good as the paper its printed on. You could pay the 40 dollars and see that it's had 2 owners and had the oil changed a couple times. most of them don't tell a whole lot. and if they're tellin you it was in an accident, then they're kinda legit. they're not tryin to pull a fast one on you.

car fax is a total waste of money,If the damage is repaired out-of-pocket(ie...not reported to insurance)You've just bought a wrecked/flooded/rust bucket. But hey that car fax says it's never been wrecked or flooded!

Carfax is nice if its free, every dealer I have been to looking for a truck has had them and they are nice to see how many owners the truck has had, how long each owner had it, etc. What do you think a fair price would be on the truck, assuming all else is in working order and the repair job was good?

when i bought mine, it had a dented up bumper, broken headlight mount and cracked headerpanel and some dents on the bed. It wasnt a major accident, so i knew the truck would be fine, i got a deal on it, the dealer was gonna bring the price up $2200 for a 700 dollar repair.

damn nice truck, kinda high price like others said. i woudnt wrry too much i mean the dealer has to inspect it anyway , they cant sell shit usually. plus think of the other vehicles you might have had over the years, some could have been in a fender bender and u wouldnt have known

I'd do Carfax, a mecanical inspection and a visit to a reputable body shop to take a look at it, they know all the tricks of the trade.

I wouldn't turn away from a small accident repair if its done right, but like others said, the price seems steep.
