Default 1985 Antique Ranger "Before" pictures posted in my Album.

Well folks, I went and took many pictures of my 1985 Antique Ranger before I start on the body and interiour, and under. Have a look if you like.

I will post, or start a new album of the "After" pictures probally at the end of the summer, if all goes well, and I'm not working all the time. I hope to finish it by the end of the summer.

Not as bad as it looks. It's going to be cake to get her to specs, After the engine, just a few more little things to do under the hood, then it's lot's of elbow grease, a pile of sanding wheels, primer and paint. I can do this, I think.

As it was once said in a movie: "Are you ready for the summer?". Are you ready for the spring time?".

I see nothing "rough" about that truck except the roof rust. My 2001 Ranger has more rust under it than that thing does. Got it from Ohio.. That truck looks like a cakewalk to fix the body up.. For the frame, I'd look into "Rust Guy" coatings. Farmers swear by the stuff around here, and if it'll last on farm implements then it'll last under your truck fo sho!

You wanna see rough? I should take some pictures of my 89 Ranger. lol

i dont think i've ever seen a roof rust like that.... driprails sure but the roof??? and NEVER on a truck that's that clean otherwise! shouldint be to bad to patch at least, looks like a simple curve to make up your own patch panel.

good luck!

Yes. Soldering is the choice method... I have no idea how that happened. I can assume There were deep scratches and it was under part way a roof for a while. This truck only has 188K miles. Lucky it was made with good American steel. Otherwise the roof and the inside would be beyond repair.

Yes, it is a strange rust place thats for sure. The body has no holes otherwise.

I was told to use a farmers type too, although I was also told Rust-o-leum is good too. Rust-o-leum has a "rusty" primer thats supposed to be good also. There are many people whom have used Rust-o-leum for under the vehicle also with great results.

i remember i had a sazuki samuri that had sat under a carport for years over in jersey, the thing had no rust except a big square hole in the top of the hood. turned out the guy had a pile of wet newspapers setting on the hood for about 10 years. when i fixed it i made a patch out of an old washing machine's shell, lol.

that truck is pretty clean for almost 200k miles though.

Thats about the same thickness of body metal!. That was a good idea. How did you install the peice?. Weld spot wel it into place?, or soder?. Someone I know says he has a box of body soder he dosen't use. Said it's better to soder it instead of Bondo because of it's years. It'll last longer. When I was in high school, I had Body and fender in auto shop. I think I can remember what I was taught Mr. Wills should be proud when I'm done.

Looks like it was kept up to the point where he gave up. This is the second engine. Looks like those guyes gave up. They coulden't get the engine running. Guess they diden't know those old engines need vacuum, without vac leaks. Found two. She purrs, dosen't smoke. Looks like the timing belt was changed also. Has all new belts on the engine too except for the "Polution Control Pump".

Maybe I'll take a short video of it running and post it in my internet space and have a link to the video. That is if some of you guyes are interested.

Kinda funny though, Why it has air conditioning?. I suppose after all is done, I'll look into having the air done also. Usually, on those trucks air wasen't a necessity, but it would seem the Instrument pannel should have been gauges instead of lights. Gauges were an option back then, not a whole lot extra for for gauges.

Thay changed all the hoses, including the heater, and the heater works gets quite warm in the cab. The aftermarket gauges come out, gonna hook up the idiot lights the was it's supposed to be.

Under, it's all surface rust. Elbow grease, time, and sand paper and steel wool should get stunning results with a black enamel undercoat, several undercoats. Glad you like it.

Yes. except skimming with body puddy. I don't have a acetylene torch. I don't know if those tourches from the hardware store will be hot enough to melt the soder. I will find out. If they arent hot enough, then it's on to Bondo, or borrow a ace tourch.

"Blobing" isent that good because one can get it to be a "Cold Sodder". Also need flux on the peice and the sourrounding area.
