Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
2010 ford ranger 4 cyl manual tranny 2.3 w/reverse XL.
Is it traceable or trackable kind of like through GPS or something like that kind of like bait car the show?? Assuming dealer did not add anything. Only thing dealer added is a stupid little socket at bottom of dash with a one inch circuit board thing next to a red led light. I did not buy the dealer installed alarm.

Re: Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
The socket is your OBD2, the board with a led intrigues me.
If it was a GPS tracker, you'd have to pay a monthly fee for your coverage. Could be a gps recorder or some kind of black box type unit?
Is there anything written on?

SHouldn't be, not unless you installed something like a Lo-Jack signal, but even that isn't GPS. That uses radio signals

Re: Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
If you did have anytype of tracking, like the others said you would know it because you would be paying monthly for it. Dealers do offer window etching with serial numbers, but if it comes to that, your car is taken, they can identify it (if located) by the etchings whether it be whole or in parts but it does not track in anyway.

According to the tin foil hat wearing people, you and your truck are completely traceable.
There are RFID chips in your tires. Your license. Your blue jeans. The list goes on..

Re: Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
I believe that new Rangers ( I know 2010 and 2011 ) have just the factory door locks and anti theft . Not much in the sense of alarm or gps ) . I used Guidepoint and it has an alarm / tracking /locator . I had it installed for the alarm and GPS . Now i also have satelite radio as well but I have the XLT and the Power Group packages . I can even go online , and for an extra fee , Find my truck via the locator . Don't need that function at all as I don't even use the Sat radio anymore as well . Not payin Sirius or anyone else for a radio or other services that I don't have to . I like AM ( Sports and News ) and FM local stations and have C D's as well . GPS is about a hundred bucks a year I believe .

Maybe a thing like they put in some used cars you dont pay the bill and they can shut it down. Once you pay the can unlock it.

You're not the only one with the led circuit board. I've heard about this before. Not sure if it was on this forum or another. I can't remember for the life of me what it was though.

There was something here before. They posted a picture and it looked like a brake controller.

Re: Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
did u buy it at a "tote-the-note" type of lot? they have A-gps transponders, so if you dont make a payment they can find it easily... its like gps but uses a pager signal and triangulates its position. some states they are not allowed... most of the time they are hid well, sometimes you can see a little box on the dash with a wire that runs into the vents. never seen one with an LED light though...

Oh snap sorry, someone all ready mentioned that... oops

Re: Is my 2010 Ranger trackable/traceable?
The circuit board plug with the led is an ignition cut off system. I have one on my ranger. If you buy the system they activate it and provide you with a circuit board type key that plugs into it. When the key is inserted your truck will start. If you remove the key it will not start. If you remove it while it's running, it will continue to run until you turn it off, then it won't start again until you reinsert the key. Dealer's used to make a big deal about the system saying if you got jacked, you could pull the key out as you left the car so the thief wouldn't be able to start it later. Just another lame excuse to get your money, like undercoatings, paint sealants, etc.
