Default NJ "QQ" License plates. What does the "QQ" Stand for?

I have QQ plates on my 1985 Ranger. I did some investigating, and found out that, not officially mind you, that the QQ at the start of the tag actually stands for a human action:

This "action" would be a pair of eyes ogling at the antique car. Historic plates was started here in Jersey by a well know and famious packard restorer, whom got the QQ tags passed. I am of the understanding that the QQ on the tags are his idea of a pair of eyes "Gauking" (spelling) at the antique or classic car.

Interesting...

QQ in gaming on line means to Quit the game. Later on, as I did my search found out that The QQ in gaming means crying eyes for the person whom everyone else wants them to quit the game. Like, a baby crys when a lollipop is taken away...

Thats actually incorrect now-a-days. One can purchase antique insurance in 3,000, 6,000 and 10,000 Miles per year increments. In years past, DMV requirered, but does not now, That the owner kept a "Miles Log" in the glove box. To be produced when a law officer requested it. Start and end miles and for what the vehicle was used for. IE:, Club Meet, car show and such. This requirement was dropped several years ago.

Your also allowed to and from repair garages, and such. My insurance also allows "Nice Day Drives". They understand that driving a antique to keep it in good running condition is requirered. So, Nice day Drives are allowed.

No he is correct, for the State of NJ, in order to get those tags the vehicle must be 25 years or older in order to order them and display them.

To the OP, The "QQ" is just a serialized format the state of New Jersey uses to designate antique auto tags. "QQ" for motor vehicles and "Q" for motorcycles.

Yes thats correct. My pont was to say the mileage is in-correct.. Insurance can be purchased in mileage increments.

I was reading a biography about the one whom introduced the QQ Historic tags to the NJ state. And from what I read the Q's was his idea of the gauking eyes. I'll see if I can find the link again...

I had a 1985 ranger 2.0 I thought it was a pile of crap. 63 HP in Overdrive!
If someone told me that it would be an "antique" I'd have laughed in their face.
But, maybe "antique" is the Correct term. The damned thing was so brittle, things broke off it....and it was only a few years old at the time!

There are several of these around here. Mine was garage kept most of the time. Origional miles are: 188K. However, The engine in mine is the second engine, recently installed before I got it. They used it for the church people to haul things. That is what killed the origional engine, I assume. It had a trailer hitch. Hitch now removed.

The others around here have severe engine problems and severe rusting. Mine has a little bit of rust that I am fixing. With the second engine. The transmission has no issues, the rear has no issues. And get this: The heater works!. There are new hoses for the radiator and heater. And looks like the heater coil is new also. It does get warm in the cab.

When I dollied it home, the engine wasen't running. It was spitting and spurting... I fixed all the vacuum leaks (I found 2), give her a tune up and she purrs. No smoking, very stable and running right. They must have broken the dip stick tube putting the second engine in because there was oil comming out of the base of the dip stick tube while running. I found a 2.3 in the junk yard. Got the stick. It's the same block as the 2.0. Cleaned up the tube, painted it and put it in. Fits like a glove, no more oil comming out.

The only thing I can imagine about the vacuum is the guyes working on this truck had no idea about the vacuum lines, and I suppose they gave up on it, thats why I have it. I installed 13 light fixtures for it. I am a old electrician. Took me 1 day and a 1/2 to install the lights for this commercial building and he signed over the truck. Borrowed a friends dolly and took it home.

I suppose I should take some before pictures of the engine and compartment, and the interiour and then take some pictures after I get the restration finished. I'll see if i can post some pictures Would you like me to contact you after I get em posted in my album here?. I think you will be suprised of the good condition this truck is in after all these years. I did actually get a beauty of a truck.

I was looking for a project truck to do, and this turned out to be a good one. Even though it's a "New Antique"... I love this truck, and so does my family. It's older than all my kids!..

It's actually goes by state. the requirements and limits would depend on the state in which you are applying.
